I have gotten a challenger and an AAR from Missouri.  The AAR had good rails and wasn't too bad but the challenger, originally from Ohio, then sat in Missouri for about 10 years was absolutely horrible.  Cowl, trunk, rear rails, front rails, front inner fenders, hinges, floor boards, rear quarters, front fenders.  Surprisingly, the roof had no rust.  Nor did the front window channel.

My Charger came from Alberta. It's pretty rusty but the worst is the driver's side (due to all the salt they use). My Duster has been in Britsh Columbia it's whole life and it's in great shape. The car is mint besides small quarter bubbling and a little rust on the passenger floor pan.

definitly MICHIGAN  i think it was a big 3 conspiracy they made em here and got mich to use pure salt in the winter so you had to buy a new car every 4 or 5 years because they rotted out. good thing mine was ziebarted or it would have been a gonner.

I'll bet 97% of the muscle cars in the North-east back then are long gone now. Salt city here.   :eek4:

Yup,northeast area uses lots of salt all winter and much of it is fairly close to the Atlantic ocean and salt air.

Interesting question.    My bet is anything north of the MD Line (Mason-Dixon) without major rust is significantly more rare than those tnat spent most of their time south.....

I grew up in Wisconsin. When I was a teenager looking for Mopars in the early 80's there was hardly anything left even back then. Total rust from the salt on the roads. The cars were typically shot and without body repo parts available then, most were taken to the salvage yards unless they were a big block/rare car.

My parts car is from Illinois, and it has horrible rust. At some point while it was back there it had a quarter replaced and the new panel is rusting at the seem where it was attached. Floors are gone inner fenders are pretty bad. weird thing, it is a vinyl top car and yet there is no rust in the roof. Go figure.

Anyone remember the Shell Oil answer man advocating cleaning the fenders to prevent rust. Too bad more owners didn't. :walkaway:

Leaves and debris sitting down the drainage pockets cause a lot of rust too. A caustic mix eating away at the bare metal.  :eek4:

New York has to be the worst when it comes to rust. Not only do they salt the roads in the winter, but I think they send crews out during the summertime as well.

Most of the midwest uses salt to cut ice off the roads so most of them got rusty pretty quick.  I would agree that maybe it was something with the big three to get the states to use salt for melting the ice off the roads.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I'd be willing to bet it was daily driven in the rain and snow, but parked under cover.  Lots of salt and moisture underneath, but no leaves and dirt collecting up above.

Mine has lived in SoCal it's entire life, so rust is pretty minimal.  Some at the base of both windshield and rear window, a little in the trunk and on the decklid, a little on the quarters, some pinholes in the trunk and wiper motor pocket in the cowl.  All patchable.

Michigan  :iagree:  We have salt mines that go half way to China.  They would spread an inch of salt for a half inch of snow.   I got my Cuda Ziebarted three days after I took ownership of it in 1972.  I think that was a life saver for any car back in the 70's.
