Space-saver spare tire

I have to get a spare tire for my `70 383 SE and I was thinking of the space-saver ,for obvious reasons, but would it be hard on the rear-end,it is a sure-grip 355 gears, if I had to use it       KEN    northern

 I would think only if you ran it hard for quite a while it could be a problem. The rear end is designed to rotate at different speeds in corners though.

 Anyone know how/when the clutches engage or the possibility of heat build up.

My car came with one but I only use it for shows.  Can you buy replacement rubber for the rim and use it?  I can't imagine using the original just because I'd expect it to blow out on me.

to my knowledge the space saver was designed to be the same height as the original , just narrower

Looking at the ones I have seen in some pics they seem alot smaller diameter than the stock tires

After it is inflated?  Are you talking about the space savers used in newer cars or the one used origionally?

I know they made 14" space-savers, I'm not sure about 15".    In any event, I'm sure the pictures you have seen are of the wheel de-flated... Thus saving space in the trunk.

Ya my car has 15" tires on it, so I wonder if one is made? I would like to go with original but if new is better and safer then I guess that would be best. Does anyone know?

The space savers are all 14".

I would not use one for a real spare, they are too expensive.

I think this part is more expensive than a steering wheel that has a rim horn.
