    what`s the first car you ever drove?

    just read about some guys drive an old truck around the farm at 12 years old... I like that picture...


    the first car I ever drove was a 1979  BMW 323i. I think I was 15 at the time.  It was a 4 speed and responding pretty quick to the throttle. First try.... it took me about 10 minutes to drive it 200 metres and I had to restart it about 50 times...  :faint: :biggrin:

    the car still exists, more or less... and belonged to my dear friend who was killed in an accident a few weeks ago.  I`m going to build him a corten-steel gravestone and will use the engineblock of that car in it.  He was a serious beemer fan.

    Dutch, I'm sorry to hear about your friend.   :angelwings:

    Like most kids, my Dad used to let me sit in  his lap when I was a little kid and steer the car.  That was a 1964 Chevy Nova wagon around the parking lot at the beach.

    The first car I drove on my own was my Dad's 1975 Pontiac Ventura 2-dr with a B/O/P 350.  He took me to the high school on a Sunday to teach me a few things - parallel parking, etc - and then turned me loose to drive around the lot on my own.  :woohoo:  Then he taught me how to drive a stickshift in my Mom's 1971 VW bus.  Slow, but fun!!  I stalled that a few times when I first started, trying to start in 3rd gear with that little engine.

    Sorry about your friend.

    The first car that I drove was a 1962 300 with my dads car.  I drove it around the yard.  I still remember my Aunt wanting to teach her how to drive a VW bug that my cousin had.  I showed her the first time right I had never done that before that also.  I drove my sisters car around the yard also.  The first car I got to drive for myself was a 1962 Old Cutlass and I had a 61 ford falcon also and painted my valve cover with purple and alot of silver  in it and it really stood out. I got rid of both of them and got my first mopar which was a 1964 Barracuda with a 273 and a 4 speed in it.   Gordon

    My dad taught me in a 1983 Oldsmobile station wagon.  White with the wood grain on the sides.
    After that, I stole a 1987 monte carlo that I drove alone and then I stole my parents 1987 pontiac grand am.
    This was when I was 12 and 14 so I learned my lessons and don't do that any more.  I needed a way to get to Denver so that I could go and skateboard all the irrigation ditch's.  Young and Dumb!!

    The first car I drove was the car I learned how to drive in; my Dad's 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS. That was a fun car to learn how to drive in.  :burnout:

    My condolences on your friend.

    I learned to drive on my parent's 85 Crown Vic.  My grandfather still has that car sitting in his driveway.  When I turned 16 my dad got me an '83 Nissan Sentra.  He got it at auction for 300 bucks and it always had one foot in the grave (junkyard).  It was a stick, so I had to learn how to drive it the weekend before I started my Junior year (1987).  It lasted about 8 months and died when water leaked onto the fuse box and shorted out the wiring.  Got rid of it and got an '83 Mustang.  Can't tell you how many times I almost killed myself with that one.  White with red interior, excellent combo.

    I can proudly say that my first daily driver car was a 1972 Plymouth 340 'Cuda.  I didn't learn to drive in it - in fact my mom started me out on her 1986 Subaru GL Hatchback wagon (I actually loved that car...) but once I got my license, I took the 'Cuda to school every day, and would stick my cello in the passenger seat and drive to lessons, rehearsals, concerts, etc...

     Sorry about your freind Dutch.
    My first was may dads 1ton International 4X4, man steering,brakes and a 4spd. At the ranch of course. ;D The first car on the rode was a old Toyota Corolla wgn. Learned how to drive on the ice/snow before I drove on pavement. My older brother and I would sneak the car out at night and go to the local ice racing track and drift the night away :bigsmile:

    1966 Ford Falcon. My dads first car and it is what I learned to drive in at the age of 9. Straight six and three on the tree.

    i cant remember which one it was, but it was one of 3, a 1960 Mercury Comet (my first car) my dads 1959 Chevy Pick up, or my moms 1977 Triumph Spitfire. either way, they were cool and all manuals. comet was a 3 on the tree which made things really fun.

    1995 Nissan Primera. A great car, put HEAPS of kms on that car and it went everywhere.
    Great little surf car. Only a 1.8L but it was a decision at the time to build my way up in hp/T.

    first car i ever drove was a 75 GMC Jimmy that we used to own. now it's a 93 jeep cherokee, 5 speed :cooldancing:
