Is there another source for the black dash paint? What would be a close match? Not sure I want to pay $100 for it. If I can find something in a rattle can that is close, I'll go with that.
I used a $10 rattle-can of semi-gloss black for the dash frame. Did it about 20 years ago and still looks great IMO. The only numbers that match on my car are the ones on the tires, so being 'a bit' different from the factory is of no concern of mine.

If you are not doing a factory restoration, SEM Landau Black came out nice on my dash frame.



Edison 1970 is correct.  SEM Black Landau is almost a perfect match.  The only difference will be that you won't get the texture of the original acrylic lacquer.  However, I've read that several people have sprayed from a distance to add a little texture to the paint surface.  Also, if you dash is original and the ash tray glove box area are original, just clean it good, don't sand it, and spray the SEM over the original paint and you will keep the original texture.

Thanks guys. I will clean mine well and see if it really needs a repaint. There are some extra screw holes that need to be filled so I will most likely repaint it, but I'll try not to strip the dash, just scuff the existing paint and reshoot it. Maybe I'll try a hidden area first and see how it turns out.

Fed Ex delivered my early Father's Day, Anniversary and Birthday gifts yesterday.  :bananasmi  Got my 512 stroker kit from 440 source along with a double roller cam chain, hi pressure oil pump, fluid damper clevite bearings, and misc. other parts, etc.  Can't wait to take them to the machine shop next week to have my short block assembled.   :bigsmile: Now to finally make a decision on the cam and get that ordered also.

Dropped off the above engine  parts  and my new Lunati cam at the machine shop today.  Spent the past few days taking my front suspension/steering apart and replacing ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends, etc.  Those lca bushings were a major PIA to replace.   :pullinghair: :banghead: :swear:  Went to Harbor Freight today and bought a 20 ton press.  Should have done that before I started, might have saved all the cuts, blood blisters and bruises on my hands!  Live and learn.  Now I just have to get a new idler and pitman arm and I should be set for parts.  I want to have the front suspension/steering rebuilt by the time the engine is done so I can mount it and the trans on the K-frame and install in the car without having to worry about doing it later.

After what seemed like forever, I buttoned up the rebuilding of my front suspension and steering on the 'Cuda.  Still need to add a couple grease fittings and find one bolt and nut for the front sway bar bracket, but other wise it's done. (I hope) After cleaning 46 years of grease and grim off the parts they were all wire wheeled and repainted.  As partially stated in my last post, I installed new upper and lower ball joints, new lower control arm bushings (major PIA to replace), new tie rod ends and adjusting sleeves, new idler arm, new 16.1 ratio steering box, new wheel bearings and grease seals, new caliber slide pins, new oversize front strut rods from Mancini Racing after discovering (after cleaning of course) that one of the original OEM rods was bent, rebuilt brake calibers, new brake pads, new brake hoses, new sway bar bushings, new cam alignment bolts, and new upper and lower control arm stops.  I'm sure I've forgotten a few things but that pretty much sums it up.  I wanted to get it done so I can mount the engine and transmission to the K member and install in the car after it gets back from the machine shop later this month.

I also installed new NOS (bought by previous owner in about 1983 and never installed) rear wheel well moldings.  For NOS parts, they sure did a lousy job of bending them to the proper shape.  It took a lot of extra effort on my part to get them to conform to the contour of the wheel wells. 

The pictures really don't do justice to the amount of time and effort that went into doing all this, but I've found that most of the work done on this every nut and bolt restoration is stuff that will never be seen, realized or appreciated by anybody but me.  :-)

It's been several years since I took the front suspension and steering apart.  I think I got it right by doing several searches here on CC.com, referring to the manual and GOOGLE pics, but if you see something that is not installed properly, please let me know so I can correct it now.

That looks great, it is coming along nicely. 

Also, I can appreciate your comment on how the pictures don't capture the amount of time and effort.  Taking out and putting back in the suspension on my car was more of a job then I has anticipated.  :faint:

Yeah they were on the car when I bought it.  Super wide at a "G" size.  Almost no tread left.  Think the previous owner did a bit of street racing.  :burnout:

Been busy all week with other projects, but did manage to take some time today to clean, disassemble, replace the seals, reassemble my brake metering block and proportioning valve.  Looks considerable better IMHO.  Just hope it still works.   :bigsmile:

The brake parts looks great.  I'm a little behind you on my front end coming back together,  Should have the rotors, calipers, and brake lines back on the car this weekend, then I will be caught up to you.   :)

What are you working on next?  For me it is getting the dash back together and in the car, after that putting the rear end back in.
