I would go higher on the stall. Remember,with a stall converter,you get what you pay for.  ;)

What brand would you recomend? Will a 2400 stall be better?

Those look like a pretty good deal if they are decent. Maybe someone here has bought one already.

The brand most widely associated with Mopar is Turbo-Action. They used to sell them in the Direct Connecton catalog and I used the model "J" in my race car when I ran the 727> http://streetwalker.homestead.com/files/RRLR1.wmv

Is this a stock 340? I wouldn't want a stall speed less than the stock converter. Stock stall speeds listed below.

I use a TCS converter. Here is a 2400-2600 RPM stall that would probably work;
http://www.tcsproducts.com/details.html?id=506

But in truth the converter you need really (and the speed it actually stalls at) depends on;
Vehicle weight
Engine specification (in particular size and cam).
Axle gears and tire height.

Oh and TCI converters get a LOT of BAD press. Probably because they are crap. I was using a 3000+ stall TCI and it not only screwed itself up with a few thousand miles it also damaged my crank.

I have recommended the TCI Break Away and Street Fighter series to ALOT of customers and they have had zero problems. They were very happy with the performance also. The best way is definitely to get a custom one (from PTC,Coan,Turbo Action etc.) I have a Street Fighter that I traded a customer on a job for that will be going into my Challenger's 518.

Maybe they only fall down when put behind an engine with decent power then? I personally know three people that have destroyed TCI converters on engines over 450hp. Moparts is full of stories about them.

The ones used by the 3 people I know and myself were all "Street Fighter" 10-inch converters. Maybe they are just built too cheap for big block power? My 440 was only making 530hp and destroyed one in no time at all.

On a mild 340 the best auto tranny combo is a 904 with the low 1st gear and a stock or mild convertor. The low gear gets you launched without frying your street tires and you don't lose MPH or get worse mileage because of the inefficency of a loose convertor. The 2.74 1st gear ($220) is way cheaper than a good custom convertor that'll cost $600. Even the more expensive 727 low gear set is cheaper. Gear reduction is good for launching a heavy car. Why not do it with the 1st and 2nd tranny gears instead of gas sucking low rearend gears or a loose convertor?  :thinkerg:
