Quick carb opinion
« on: February 16, 2009 - 10:24:13 PM »
Well I have my 600 holley non-adjustable floats on my new motor in the challenger, It wont run the way it should, obviously too small.

What carb do you guys think I should be shooting for?
Its a 414 stroker, auto trans, 3.23 posi.

What carb would you guys suggest?
was looking at a 670 or 770 holley street avenger
or I could rebuild the 750 I have laying around in my garage.
Im really no good with carbs, but i need to learn somehow.
what do you guys think?

Try rebuilding the 750.  Once you take it apart and keep all the parts organized, they aren't that difficult.  A holley book with step by step might help out too.  The 750 should flow what you need.

Yea I was never worried about mpg with my car, I just need to pick up all the parts and gring em back to school. I know It does need a few lil things here and there. I may go that route.

That pic was the first time I ever drag raced, before the stroker.

But ill get my parts together and take a pic and see what you guys think im going to need to order for this thing.

I only have one, I picked it up at a swap meet to be a learning carb.  I guess there are numbers on there that I can run to find out exactly what it is. Its missing the secondaries, choke plate(even though I dont plan on using it anyway), and something else I forgot. Maybe this weekend when I get back home I can take a few pics and you guys can give me a hand.

I think the best carb for the $$$ is the 800 Thunder AVS. At least with one of those if you go through a carb "learning curve" you won't be dumping gas all over your Intake every time you make a jet change. They also come with an installation and tuning DVD.

Yea right now its affordability. I would love to go the right route and buy a new carb, but I have no such means of buying new. But I need to learn carbs one way or another, so rebuilding the 750 I guess would be the smart way.

I spec the 870 Street Avenger on my 4" street engines. And before that gets me beat up, they get over 15mpg with them with a higher stall convertor and mild gears.

Lot's of parts are missing. The vac cannister, the float adjusters, maybe even the floats themselves. That's the bare-bones cheapest 750 Holley ever made. Whether it's worth investing money in when you can get a brand new one for $250 is your call.  :dunno:

well I have already torn the thing apart. yea the vacuum secondaries are missing, so is the choke assembly, but I have the choke parts laying around.

But if I were to buy a new carb, prob rebuilt, what should I go after?
