While my parents were here on vacation thier X-fire SRT showed it needed an oil change. My Dad called the local dealer, it was going to be over $100.
I told him we could be down at the Autozone and back, have it changed and take back the old oil to the "Zone" in about :45 to an hour. He was like, "I don't know. This is a Mercedes engine. " and something about warranty and having the dealer sign the maint. log in the glove box.
I said piss on that. Then he started going off about how to get the change oil/ passed due light to go off. I had it all done, oil and info center, reset and changed in about an hour.
It sounded like he didn't have a lot of faith in me working on a Mercedes, wooh big deal. I don't get it. I make my living mechanicing on things from million dollar boats to construction equipment.
Look at it this way, if someone else can do it you can too. Don't have self doubt. That's so weak. Now if you got the money and you just don't want to get your fingers dirty then hey, feel free to stimulate the local economy. I'm sure they love taking your money.
TEN quarts of premium, synthetic engine oil...
Just be glad you don't have a 7.3 International in a Ford F-350. There are more expensive vehicles to change the oil and they aren't exotics. And who doesn't use "premium" oil. I use VR1 Valvoline in the cuda and Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck (TDT) in the poor ole' Jetta TDI (7,000 miles on oil/ 3,500 per filter). Those two oils are bound to be more expensive than about 98% of the oils out there.
What does the Snake take? Also, the Snake takes the same filter as an LA so why it should cost you more to do the Viper than the same year 318 Dodge pick up I don't know. Well, 3 more quarts anyway.
I hope you didn't buy the Viper for the cost of ownership. It aint workin'.
