Dave Wise is the guy you need to contact. He offers pretty much everything GG does ie: appraisals, authenticating, quality inspector, validation, pre-purchase inspections, expert witness, restoration consulting and local and national show judging. :2thumbs:

Galen is real nice to me every few years when he calls me to see if I'm ready to sell my 71 conv. to a client/friend of his. Other than that he rarely has the time to talk with me and then can't seem to remember who I am. I have been waiting something over 3 years for a fender tag. Twice over the past couple of years I have cancelled it and each time the lady working there says it is already finished and I will have it within 2 weeks. I have never sent them any money so I guess we're even.  :walkaway:

Yes, Only because you have something he can make money on. :2cents:

I don't like the way Galen does business and he will never get my money. A guy on dodgecharger.com bought a '69 Hemi Charger R/T and Galen basically came running. In the words of the Hemi R/T owner: "Within a month's time, Galen flew in to TX and spit out a complete visual inspection report, broadcast sheet report and designed/decoded the (repro) fender tag...". So basically... a guy with a 318 car contacts him and never gets a reply. He goes around to shows and copies down people's vin/fender tag information. Then he charges people an arm and a leg for his services. Get this....this is a quote from a guy from the '70 Charger registry...

"This is what kills me about Mr. "Guru" Galen Govier....the sales info on that 70 R/T SE says (according to the Chrysler Registry (Galen's)) "It is also #2 of 3 RT/SE's "Y07" Code.

That sounds super rare doesn't it? Well the 70 Charger Registry already has 9 Y07 R/T SE cars registered"

Oh, and this is a letter Galen sent when somebody registered their car with him.... :eek7:

...and he's a comedian, too, eh?

Did this customer ask for Gay Len's personal history of rare cars?

Here's how much of an "expert" he is:

We were at Carlisle about ten years ago and a friend of mine asked Galen what the deal was with some Air Grabber boxes being dark gray, some orange. His reply was "I don't know....ask the guy over there with the Super Bee".

This clown has the audacity to charge money to answer questions?

I never started this post with any intent to bash Gale Govier. Just wanted to know if anyone else offered the equivalent services. I've been ripped off by a bunch of mopar "enthusiasts", but not Galen.

Is Galen Govier the only source for fender tags?  I need a fender tag for my 70 Barracuda Convertible.  I've got the build sheet and window sticker...just no fender tag.

I'd like the tag just to complete the car.  It was originally a 318 3-spd, but is now a 340 4-spd so my numbers dont match.  I dont care that numbers dont match, I'd still like the tag though.

That is who Galen has make his tags, before marking them up 100%.
The problem is that they won't create a tag based on your information unless you have the original tag and can give all the codes and order in which they appeared.
With the info from your build sheet there are people who can use that to determine how your tag would have looked.  I think Barry Washington can do that for a fee.

My apologies on getting on the hijack wagon.......it's kind of an involuntary reaction.

Good luck with getting Galen to answer quickly for "just" a 318 car.

Not to contradict you, but Datatags made me a fender tag 6-7 years ago. Mine was missing. I have an L.A. built car, so no build sheet. I had to answer alot of questions about my car options and such, but they made me a tag. Maybe they changed their policy since then?   :dunno: I wasn't putting anything on it that wasn't on my car, so it's not like I was trying to fool anyone. Yes people, my car was originally a base 383 model Challenger.   :grinyes:

I'll give the folks at Datatags a try.  If they are worth their salt, they should be able to create me a fender tag directly from the build sheet...I'll let you know what happens...

Definitely a 2nd kudos for Dave Wise w/ Moparr Motors Detroit (248) 393-3970
www.mmcdetroit.com  He even offers an ICCA cetification program, does appraisals & validations & pre purchase inspections.  Great guy to talk to & website has tons of cool stuff.   Prices are much better, too.

I went to Govier for the decode for several reasons;

1) There was nobody else available to do the thorough job he did. He is the only professional game in town that I knew of.
2) All my efforts to secure the info from other sources were met either with incorrect or incomplete info. As I intend to do a total correct resto on the car, I needed the right info.
3) The place where I would have expected to get the most accurate info (A-bodies only forum) is pretty much useless
4) Like it or not, Govier's imprimatur does add value to the finished product. On a car of which only 500 or so were produced, it's money well-spent.
5) I get a warm, fuzzy feeling looking at the results

Just because it comes from him doesn't mean it's going to be correct. I waited almost 4 years for that Ahole and after tons of emails and phone messages that went unanswered I met him personally in Carlisle and asked what was going on. The same old stories like the Funk Bros. Everyones fault but his own. I did finally get what I ordered and it's fill of mistakes and just a waist of money. I gave up trying to get it corrected and just through it all away as it was just junk anyway. I will NEVER spend a dime to buy a thing that ahole produces. I quit my subscription of MCG until they finally got smart and dropped the idiot for the mag. I now subscribe to it again.
