Mopar Nationals.....Aug. 7-8-9, 2009
« on: February 25, 2009 - 09:50:42 AM »
Since Vegas is unfortunately out for me this year due to work, and E-Town doesn't sound too promising lately, I have been looking into going to the Nationals in Ohio.
I can get some pretty good deals for the weekend on it, even though airfare isn't that cheap...WTF!
 Anyone going this year?
Any opinions from those who have been there in the past, and from those who are going?.....good/bad.
Thanks

By the way, I know it's still early, but when the hell do they update their website??

I will be there, went last year as the year of the challenger, I liked it.  The track is close and plenty of cars.  We decided to go there instead of Carlisle, as it is a great show, but just to far to Pensylvania from us.

It's always a tough question. People get different things out of the hobby.

What are you looking for from the show?:

Mopar party atmosphere at night
used parts
NOS used parts
sheetmetal used parts
good deals on used parts
new parts
used completed and project cars
lots of show cars you haven't seen before
Mopars drag racing
Other non Mopar activities in the area -car related
Other non Mopar activities in the area -family related
etc, etc...

R/T, both are great shows, I think Vegas is better for drag racing as you sit above the track and can see everything going on and have fighter jets overhead, @ National Trail, the raceway sits up higher and you can only see the tops of cars down the track, but the Nats are WAY better for vendors, Mfgs, swap meet and parts, so its a toss up, I go to both, Vegas is fun for other stuff not mopar and In-Out Burger and the Nats have Brice Rd. and Hebron cruise, awesome to see people sitting in lawn chairs watching cars go by, wont see that in vegas, but all great times!!!!!

I would have to say last year the show attendance was way down. Usually Sat am is so crowede you can't walk around easly. We brought my 64 Max Wedge there and we drove in to the showfield and found a show spot VERY easly. This year I might pass up on the Nats and try something. We have been to the Strip, Carlisle, Monster Mopar Weekend and the Nats. Anyone want to chime in on what other BIG Mopar shows I might consider? We live in Wiaconsin.
I now have a 73 Cuda. We yould drive it to wherever we are going. I was considering doing the Hot Rod Power Tour this year From Madison, Wi to wherever we decide to stop.

Thanks for all the great input so far everyone

pink......you say the track is close. Do you mean close to you, or is the track a little ways from the show cars? May have just misinterpreted what you were saying?

autox........My main interests are Mopars racing, and the car show.
Everything else is just an added bonus, though not on the top of my list.
Putting a list up of all the options though was a great idea

tumbob........trust me, if I could go back to Vegas this year again, I'd be there in a second  :hyper:
It was an awesome trip going there last year  :ylsuper: I remember you recommending In-Out Burger to me last year.
I FINALLY found one there, went in, and the place was f'n ridiculous. PACKED  :dogpile: :dogpile:
That was it for that, though I did talk to a real nice guy with a 65 Coronet in the parking lot there, so it wasn't a total washout
That is a bit disappointing to hear about the track conditions at the Nationals though.
Ain't no fun watching roofs race down a track  :-\
Hmmm.......what to do??

doncarson......thanks for chiming in also

By the way....MEK......did you happen to get my PM?

If the Mopar drag racing is your #1, then Nationals is for you. Carlise drag strip is off site and not as big. Vegas is about 50/50 drag racers to show cars and the used part swap is small.

Spring Fling in Los Angeles would be quite a haul for you. But it's 3 times the size of the used part swap meet in Vegas and same size midway. Show car field is bigger than Vegas, but there are no drag cars. Not as hot and all on grass. You could route yourself through San Fransisco and cruise down Hwy 1:

Jeff,

Then there is Brice Road after the show. Simply put, it is just out of control chaos.  :burnout:

I mean if you like looking at cars and watching racing at the track it is right there, the track is close to about everything.

yes Brice road is something I had never experienced before, the only thing I can say is " un-beleivable!"

I really enjoy the Mopar Nationals in Ohio and have not missed the nats since I started going in 1985. We stayed on Brice road till a couple years ago and always had a great time but the cops started giving everyone a pretty hard time so we moved to Heath and found the cruise in the evening to be just as fun with lots of burn outs and great looking mopar rides. We are staying in Heath again this year and I'll be driving the Challenger RT out again as it is only a 7 1/2 hour drive from southern IL. I'm going to Las Vegas again this year after missing last year and have always had a great time. The drag racing is good and so is the car show and vendor field. We always go to the Cannery Saturday night for the cars, Band, and party. It is one good time for all and I'm glad we are going as it has been a long winter and I need some warm weather.

we are staying right of the interstate by the sghow grounds, wasn't lucky enough to get inside Heath.

We will stop off at the farm in southern Ill, that is our halfway point.

Thanks again eveyone......really appreciate all the info

Well, I've already asked for the time off at work, and they said no problem  :woo: :woohoo:
Looking good

It looks like Heath is already booked up.............jesus christ you people plan ahead  :worshippy

I can get one hell of a seriously good deal through travelocity right now.
I'm not booking just yet, as I will float around and see what pops up first.
Have any of you ever stayed at The Best Western Columbus North? (888 E DUBLIN GRANVILLE RD
Columbus, OH 43229)
Looks to be about 25 to 30 miles from the show, which is cool with me.
Any advice, or recommendations on where to stay?
Things to do besides the show?

Thanks all
