aluminum block (small block) question, finally an answer!

Does anyone know if there is an aluminum block available for the LA small block engines?

In hotrodders.com October 2007 was the same question, but no answers:
I'm looking to find a new aftermarket small block chrysler, preferably a 360. If at all possible, I would like to find an aluminum block. I've tried World, Dart, and Mopar Performance Parts and I'm unable to find one that is better than stock specs. Where can I find an aftermarket block that can run big horsepower?

That sucks. I checked with Indy as well with no luck. They have aluminum blocks for the B, RB, Hemi and AMC engines but no LA engine. I've been thinking a lot lately about lightening the front of the Challenger. Mopar has a great aluminum head to go on it that flows really well, but I would want an aluminum block to go with it. There is also a fuel injection 6 pack available that flows between 900 and 2300 cfm which I think would top off an all aluminum storker small block nicely.

Contact Ryan at Shady Dell Speed. He has lightening programs for the MP iro blocks that lose a lot of weight and no loss of strength. It's not aluminum, but it's something like 40lbs off the iron. The Sprint Car guys use them.

They use aluminum blocks for the 800HP sprint car motors, but they are pricey and take special parts because of their 48* lifter bores.

I finally found someone who can build an aluminum small block Mopar! LSM in Michigan can build a street billet aluminum block for a small block Mopar. Build time takes 10-12 weeks and it's not cheap. Price is approximately $9,500. So now we are talking about an engine costing possibly more than an all aluminum hemi, but if you want a small block, now you can have one. They also do custom grind camshafts.

Yes it is. It is also extreme and insane. How many people can say they have an all aluminum small block? Even less than can say they have an all aluminum big block or hemi  :bigsmile: Now I just got to find the money. Maybe I can find some in between the couch cushions.  :roflsmiley:

Thats pretty cool but If I'm going to spend that kinda money I'd just get a hemi and upgrade my suspension for better handling if weight in the front is a concern

Buy a used sprint car piece. If your going with that radical of a block, why stick with the same old LA/Magnum flow limitations on the heads and bad pushrod angles.  Get a 48* block and correct a bunch of problems all at once for less money.

Can you use stock heads and intakes with the sprint car piece?
