Ok,I give -what the heck is a Paczki?
Jeff:
They are a traditional Polish treat, made of a deep-fried dough filled with either fruit filling or custard. Paczki have traditionally been made for Fat Tuesday, to use up the stock of lard, sugar, fruit, and eggs before the start of Lent.
The city of Hamtramck here in Michigan is a mostly Polish community, and the paczki are a celebrated delicacy on Fat Tuesday. People drive from all around Detroit very early in the morning and wait in line at the bakeries to get paczki to share with their families, or more commonly at their workplace.
If you ever get a chance to try a paczki, do it. Never mind that they have about two weeks worth of fat and calories...they are delicious!
