Looking at 72 Dart, need some info
« on: February 27, 2009 - 09:36:46 PM »
Hello, it's been a while since I've visited. I got out of the hobby for while but I'm getting ready to jump back in. I'm looking at a 72 Dart two door with a slant six. My church is in the process of raising funds to build a new facility and I thought it would be neat to get with the men's ministry group and restore a classic car. We have a sponsor lined up, so we need a car, hopefully the Dart, and some shop space.

I have two questions actually. One, what do I need to do to convert this car to a small block?

Or, if I decide to go retro mod and install a 5.7 Hemi, what would be involved in making that swap?

I'm no stranger to restoring cars. It's been a while but I have kept up with the market and the suppliers. The price on the Dart is right. With sponsorship, we can do this and make money when we raffle it or auction it. I just need to know what I need to make the swap from a slant six to a 360, if I go that route, or to a 5.7, if I go that way.

Thanks!

I wouls swap out the K frame for a V8 K , Schumaker has mount kits to bolt the V8 to that frame & I believe the new Hemi in as well

Should be a pretty easy swap to a small block.  If you're looking to make top dollar on a raffle, you should probably go with the 360, because it will cost a lot more to put in a new Hemi, and will probably add a good bit of time to the build.

You guys should get a Barracuda and make custom Jesus Fish Barracuda emblems....  :cooldancing:

just joking, I recently watched the rerun of a Seinfeld with a Jesus Fish issue in it.  :smilielol:

Well, the Dart sold before I could get to it, but we're close to closing the deal on a 73 Challenger!

Guys, I'll be leaning on you a lot if this becomes a reality. I've redone one Cuda and one Charger in my lifetime, but those were a lifetime ago!

Anyone from the Dallas Fort Worth area?

I'm in Rowlett, next to Garland.  How about yourself?

I'm over in Keller. Our plans seem to be changing daily. Now it looks like we've landed a 71 Dart Demon! You know, there's something ironic about a bunch of Christian men restoring a car called a Demon! :grinyes:
