Hemi cuda
« on: March 01, 2009 - 03:59:46 PM »
I would lilke to build a correct 1970 Hemi cuda clone, my car is a 1970 Barracuda with a 426 hemi.
I would like to know what the differance is on the chassis between a 1970 plymouth barracuda 318 V8 and a Hemi cuda. is it only the torsino boxes, torsion bars and the leaf springs?
I hope some one can help me

K-member (bb with skid plate), torque boxes, Hemi cuda had shaker hood stock, not like on Challengers.

To start with, I like the chassis/frame to be correct, like welding on the torsion boxes, is there other metal work I need to do?

Dana 60 was an option, came with a 8 3/4 if backed by an auto.  If you got the 4-speed it came stock with the Dana.

Brake booster was unique,

plenty of engine parts, valve covers, carbs are different in 70, even different between auto and stick.

The frame would have torque boxes, K-frame would have a skid plate and be a BB k-member.  Hemi torsion bars are NOT welded.

Here's an original 70 Hemi Cuda valve cover... I have the rest somewhere too.

I believe you could get a Dana 60 behind the A/T if you ordered the 4:10 trac pac option then you would also have the power steering cooler too.

Also Hemi cars had an additional re inforcement plate welded in where the pinion snubber would contact.

Oh yeah, the pinion snubber, and that's what I meant by an option.  Gotta love those 4.10's stock!

Yup, thats the plate that'll cover up your jack dents also.

I hardly see any K members without dents right there.

The hemi cars had a unique k member that had special mounts. There is a company that converts k members to hemi k members and even sell the parts so you can convert your own.

The bracket you can see in the picture, is that for holding the car down under transport or what is it for?

From what I can see, it doesn't look correct (not a real good angle).

Also Hemi Cuda's came with disk brakes stock I am fairly sure.  I know earlier Hemi Cars could be had with larger drums or disk.  I am blanking on the 70 though.
