Wiper Motor Issue
« on: March 01, 2009 - 09:14:11 PM »
Hi, I have a 71 cuda with the 3 speed wiper motor. All of a sudden the wipers no longer go all the back down to the base of the windshield. When I shut the wipers off they sit about a 1/3 of the way up. I have tried to bring it down manually but it feels like it comes to a solid stop. Any ideas as to what may have happened?

Thanks,

the same problem all the wiper motors have , the reverse switch inside the motor has a problem & will not back the wipers down under the hood
Jules the Wiperman is rebuilding mine right now for the same problem , I tried to fix it first but got nowhere

Hey Chryco, any idea about how long it takes to get a motor rebuilt by Jules?

Thanks, I've got one that could use a rebuild but I really don't want it off for that long.  I'll probably just wait until next winter.

I don't have a service manual but I will see what I can do once I remove it. I have a couple of buddies who know what they are doing when it comes to stuff like that and one of them may even have a manual.

I appreciate your help Chryco.

there is a thread some where on the sote about this , , it is more complicated than you think , you need to cnnect combinations of 2 wires to positive & using different wires for ground , I would start by cleaning the reverse switch contacts under the cover , the cover is the round plate held on by 5 screw , 2 screws hold the wires in place , it that seems ok it has probably burned the reverse winding inside the motor from what i could figure out
