68 Hemi Charger R/T...that's my other fantasy car.  :grinyes: Beautiful project and I'm super jealous.  So your building a HEMI Charger with front drum brakes?  :clueless:

Thanks ya'll......
Yeap, she has front drums... I have a '69 Charger 500 that has drums all the way around as well and they do just fine... No need to swap out............ I don't think I'll be getting to the speeds necessary to require discs.. But, that says nothing for the low-end-tire-burning-smoke-making times I'll have...........

I've got 4-wheel power drum brakes on my 70 Charger 500 and compared to my Challenger with power disc's the Charger is a bit hair raising to stop.  The drums are original equipment, but I'd perfer some nice disc brakes on that big Charger.  You have quite a coral of Mopars.  Must be nice!

Let me catch everything up today...
Here's what I've done thus far...
-
Cleaned up the third member, installled it and took some pictures of inspection (orange paint at bottom of housing) and letter markings (A and some numbers) on it. I also installed the rear axles with the new-style "green" bearings. I figured I'd throw on the rear wheels and tires from Dana to see what she would look like.. I thought she looked pretty good. The pictures really didn't come out great because of lighting....... left the third member natural since that's the way they are installed.... Still have detail things to do like get new carrier retaining nuts, paint the pininon snubber and hook up the brake lines...

Getting the brakes in line now... I"m working on the rears with the help from Julie..

Yes, Mom knew she didn't have shoes... Pretty much "stage" the shot for the future..

In conjunction with my rear brakes, I'm detailing my front drums. Against my regular practice, I detailed the drums with a high temperature cast detail paint and then reapplied the paint codes/inspection markings I found on the hubs. In my case, the color was green. After cleaning the drums, I discovered the green, took pictures and duplicated the original look as close as possible. The inside hub area has the same green markings, but I decided to leave those alone since one side was pretty clear and visible. I'll get new anti-vibration springs for the front drums.. I also inserted the new races for the new bearings... Man, by the time I'm done with this car, it's going to be new...............

1. the original green markings..

2. the detailed "resto"

Hey Troy, do you have the original dust caps from the rear drum housings ?  I would suspect that the green paint would have been an inspection marking that would have included the cap recieved the green to reffer it as being inspected during the line build while in construction buddy  :2thumbs: as this is why color was applied to areas to show that someone has already inspected the area of concern :grinyes:

Hey gang..
Well,, knocked out some more on the car today.. Got the grille header from the powder coaters on Friday, came out great. May be a wee bit too glossy, but it almost matches the original unweathered area nicely... Then I went ahead and painted the core support front face... Think it came out well.........
