Sway bar kit
« on: March 03, 2009 - 09:42:04 PM »
Ok so what I really need is the front sway bar bushing brackets and bolts. If I buy them from Year One it would come to $50 for the brackets and looks like $30 per bolt? If so http://www.justsuspension.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=334 this would be cheaper. Has anyone used this kit? Is it cheap for a reason? Like poor quality or something?

Nothing inherently wrong with their kits, they just are not exactly like stock. For instance, they are designed to mount up to cars without the sway bar tabls on the lower control arm. To accomplish this they provide an angle bracket that bolts to the lower shock mount. Some people really despise this arrangement, but it is cheap, easy, and effective. Their B body kits use a different mounting bracket arrangement than stock. Again, it is not stock and some dislike it as a result, but it still works.

I've used several of thier kits for different body styles without complaint.

What bolts are 30 bucks each. You got a picture? Maybe I can help with some extra stuff I have in buckets.  I have a pretty good bolt bin and build on that often. Even Barry has helped me out. I dont mind sharing  :2thumbs:

Screw YearOne.  They charge ridiculous prices for everything.  Get your brackets here:

http://www.paddockparts.com/Paddock/product_family.asp?family_id=1705&gift=False&0=dept.asp%2Cdept_id%3D4%26menu_id%3D%26Tree%3D%2CDodge%2FPlymouth&1=dept.asp%2Cdept_id%3D68%26menu_id%3D%26Tree%3D0%2CDodge%2FPlymouth%20Suspension&mscssid=F787D3E068E345DB9D8EAADBF346DF2F

and go to Home Depot and get four 1/2" head x 1" long bolts with a washer and nut for each.  That's exactly what I have on mine.

This is the bolt link http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?cat=1   It doesn't say 4 so I assume 30 bucks per.
I don't wan't to get the kit I just need hardware and brackets.  So per 73Chally I'll get those from the Depot.  I have a $30 gift cert for Y1 that I have to use by the 18th so I guess I'll get those brackets there.

I'll probly need more bolts and hardware as thats what was missing the most when I had to search the place for my stuff.

Thanks to Chryco getting me the kmember bolts a few years back cause good luck with buying/finding those.
Thanks guys!

:2thumbs: If you're not looking for an OE restoration, you can find 90% of what you need at a hardware store.  There's a little mom and pop place just down the road from my friend's shop that has an incredible supply of bolts and stuff.  We made 2 or 3 trips a day down there when we were puting mine back together.

Getting bolts from the store isn't a problem its knowing what I need as I don't even have the old ones to compare to. Body bolts are one thing but when dealing with suspension, hardness and type of bolts washers and nuts need to be correct. So i'll be asking lots of questions. Be ready!

Well, not knowing specifically which bolts they are, I'd guess are they are a 3/8 national course thread. Get a grade 8 cad plated bolt and they'll look good for along time and be stronger than average hardware variety.

Bolts are 1/2" (1" long).  Thread doesn't really matter because they secure with a nut on the other side of the bracket, just make sure the nut matches the bolt.  Good mention about the Cad plated bolts.  I mentioned Home Depot, but you might be better off getting them from something like Ace Hardware or Tractor Supply.
