I got a good deal this afternoon
« on: March 06, 2009 - 01:24:02 AM »
I bought a used Machine shop engine/parts vatte machine today (hot tank)

My friend at the machine shop stepped up to a bigger / newer model.  He paid like 6k for his old one and last yr put 1500 bucks in parts into it.  I got it for 300 bucks. He is supplyin me with all the caustic cleaner for free.

Now I can hot tank my engine parts right at the house here. I am working on a boring bar set, valve machine and a head belt resurface machine.  Nothing fancy, just trying to get my shop ready fro extra income for when times are down

Al,

Just do us all the favor of making sure your cleaning area is well ventilated, especially when you will be working in the area.  We'd like to keep you around for a while.

That is so cool Alan,  Just make sure you have plenty of vents so you wont be overcome with the fumes.  Gordon

Hi Alan,  That is great news.  Make sure you do not dip any Aluminum parts and remove cam bearings when dipping as they will break down the verosity of the caustic of you contaminate it with anything Aluminum. :2thumbs:

Yeah Kenny. I was told that. I had my choice of aluminum cleaner or caustic.  I had heard the stories as you discribed. Thanks for the reminder

No worries buddy, just be mindful of what you are playing with there as it can be harmful and will need your full respect when doing jobs :2thumbs:

Maybe you and Neil can come down and work with me on that for safety sake. It might take a few years

I would love to be on the tools and be around friends old mate.  Not sure how safe things would be if we all started laughing from each others accents and company :roflsmiley: :2thumbs:

Between the "eh's" "mates" and "y'alls" I think I'd laugh, too.
