Doug's Headers for Big Blocks
« on: March 07, 2009 - 11:47:10 AM »
I think I've decided on a set of Doug's headers for my 543 stroker. It's done for the most part. Just waiting on the custom cut push rods and it will be ready to make horsepower!! I'm told 600-650 easy!! Woo-Hoo baby!! :woo:I would like to go with TTI, but just a bit too pricy. I know they are the best. The next best choice seems to be the Doug's headers. I contacted Doug's Pertronix & gave them the info on my vehicle/make/model/engine ect. They told me I needed the D452's and I wouldn't need a mini starter. However, I went to a Doug's distributor who told me I WOULD need a mini starter. :clueless: Anybody have these on a big block?? I see several posts here of folks running them on small blocks, but can't find any big block info on anyone running these headers. Any info, fitment problems, suggestions, opinions (good or bad) on these headers?? I'm waiting to...Pop hood, pull old 440, install 543, boil the pavement!! :burnout:I am pumped. I'll post specs and pics of the motor/install when I get it!! Thanks guys!!

Ok,
I got an answer on the Doug's headers from PerTronix Performance on the D452 big block headers. Jegs and Summit (and some other sites) are confusing because the listing will say "fits with Mopar mini starter". I assumed that this meant it ONLYwould fit with the mini starter. Isn't that what you would think when you read it?? :dunno:Well the headers will fit with the mini starter, but also with the factory starter. I even checked twice on this to make sure. So I am guessing since no one responded, that the only folks using Doug's headers (that read this post) are small block users. The small block guys I've talked to love them! I am hoping that there are no real issues with these as I've pretty much decided on a set of the D452's. For those interested, the best price is $639.00 from both Summit and Jegs for the D452 (Big Block E body ceramic coated, 2" primary). Summit is about 3 bucks cheaper on shipping. If anyone has these on a big block, feel free to let me know how they fit!!

A local Mopar guru once told me that tti headers are copies of Doug's headers.  I've never confirmed this, so take it for what it's worth.

I just picked up the motor!! :woo: Believe me, I've been warned on this motor (about 650 HP). I've yet to do any frame support or rear end mods. Takes time and money. I'm sure you know all about that Jason. I'll have to baby it for now. Kurt (who built my motor) races a low 9 second Duster. He told me this motor he built has more torque than his stroked 400 race car motor, but less horsepower. I currently have an 8 3/4 3:91 posi with 295-50-15's on the rear. It will just spin those. It's a good thing for now because Kurt told me if I had slicks and hooked up solid it would break things without any doubt. Like the ring and pinion!! I know it will need some mods. He said even a Dana 60 may not hold up and suggested going to a Ford 9" rear end. I am open to suggestions on suspension mods and will look into some things as money & time permits!! I just spent my tax return times two!! :22yikes: but this thing makes me drool just looking at it. I'll need a change of underwear when i drive it!! The UPS man just left and dropped off the Doug's headers. I'll take pics and post later!! For now here's some motor pics. I'll have to put a post in the restoration section for the engine swap. I think that's the right section?? :droolingbounce:
