Found Some 4-Speed Challengers! Now With PICS!
« on: March 07, 2009 - 11:49:57 AM »
I called a semi-local Mopar guy this morning to get a quote on painting my 73 Chally and he informed me that he just got two Challengers himself, BOTH "straight gear" cars, a 72 & 73. For you guys north of Manson-Nixon, that's 4-SPEED! Goes on to tell me he HAD to buy both to get the one he wanted. He's thinking of parting the "other" car, since it's been wrecked in the front.

I will be making a trip over there within the next few days. Will keep y'all updated! YES, I will try to save/buy the "parts car".   :jumping:

Okilee dokilee, hidey-ho campers.....

I went on down to the local dude's place today and here's what I saw........

The 73 is a 318, probably a 3-speed, was green and has lots of roof/ rear window rot. Otherwise, a good, solid car. He's keeping that one and putting a 440-4-speed setup in it.

The 72 is an original Hemi Orange 318-3-speed, now blue. Has some big dents, including the core support, quarters and the fenders are pushed against the doors. Also a pretty solid car. The odd: Upper and lower control arms were torched through, apparently to get the spindles. This is odd, being a drum-brake car.

Yes, I'm buying the 72!

PICS!!! (73 first)

Sorry, no interior pics this trip. I didn't want to seem overanxious.  :jumping:

He says I can keep the car there if I buy it and I'd bet that he'll let me work on it there, too. That would be super, since I'd like to get it rolling before I try to transport it and I'm out of space at home anyway!

The big quarter dents are from a BULL that liked to play with the car in the field it was in!

Here's the big question........What do y'all think it's worth?

Anybody got production numbers on 72's? My GayLen book doesn't break down the JH cars.

Fender Tag:

M42 R11 V7X EN2
EV2 U C16 C55 G11 M21
EV2 D(?)6X9 000 937 186031
E44 D15 JH23G2B XXXXxx

Pretty basic car, but well worth saving, yes?

Depends on how bad you want it.   Good thing is that they make new quarters, fenders, door skins, roofs, tailpanels, etc.  How much work do you want to put into rebuilding it.

If it were me, I would clone it into a '70.

It's a Challenger - of course it's worth saving.  Now if it were a 'Cuda... :roflsmiley:

Honestly, it looks pretty good to me, but no question it'll be a lot of work involved.

It looks like he's got a few other interesting rotters back there.  What's the story on the Charger we see?  Any other cool Mopars or other Detroit iron we can't see?

What has happened to that car? The front bumber seems to be straight and I think that it should be original? Atleast I don't undestrand why someone would have changed the bumber without doing anything else. Mayby a tree or something similar fell on it? That would explain the windshield but not the pushed in fenders...

Definately looks saveable! The roof seems to be solid and even the filler panel doesn't look that bad.

Hey Steve, in the second pic of the '72, I see what looks like a '68 or 9 Charger. Any info on that?

That's all I can find, too. I'm hoping to get the breakdown by engine/trans.

The Charger in the background? What Charger?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, these Chargers!
