What' the difference between 70 mirrors and 71-74 mirrors?  I bought some 71 mirrors from PG Classics and the screw holes don't line up?? I will post pics tomorrow to show you what I mean.

71-74 mirrors have longer bases than 70 and larger heads.

The 70 and 71-74 mirrors have the same bolt pattern. I have 71-74 mirrors on my 70 with no problems. It looks like someone has messed with your one door there, given there are more than 2 screw holes. It looks like the other door should work.

Another item is it could have originally come with just one window and they added the passenger side later.  Then installed what was available at the dealer or through a friend.  That happened more often than not back in the day.

OK that might explain the pass side. But what about the extra hole on the drivers side?

Probably the same story. Someone put an aftermarket mirror on there. Do those holes line up on the driver's side with the new mirror? It looks pretty close. Another thing is, those holes should have a "nut-sert" in them to screw the mirror into.

Figured it out!!  Had a freind of mine drop by with a pair of 70 mirrors and guess what.....the hole line right up! Looks like the previous owner mounted 70 style on the chally instead of the 71-74 style. Now I'm stuck with the decsion to either mount the 71's on there and have the doors repainted (more money!!)  or trade in my 71's for a pair of 70's. With the second option I don't have to repaint, drill holes, or anything. What do you guys think? I'll post a picture tomorrow and show you the difference in mirrors.

  Like most car items the more you noodle on it the sooner an answer become apparent.  Alot of people used to like the 70 style over 71-74 style.  Now adays I think most people just appreciate that era's styling in general.  I know there is a premium price on most 70 parts compared to the others.  I think the key is what style do you like best.  If your not into the concourse thing than what winds your clock is what counts most.

Are you sure? I just got off the phone with PG classics to get these returned for a 70 set

Just hung up the phone again with PG Classics and they tell me after many pictures sent to them that the 70 ebody mirrors will work. So I am going to send these back in and return them for a 70 set.....wish me luck

BTW the part # on the bottom of the 70 base is
