I found a good one a fairly recent car they glued 1/4s on and did not replace the inner 1/4s ,just a shame what people do and the paint was like skim milk :villagers:

Under the undercoating... some ugly patches.
Forgot the holes for the heatshield, can't find the drill, aah, just weld it.... :bigsmile:


Bolt to the bumber bracket broke....weld it!  (no picture of that though)

Why are those patch panels ugly? The high welds?

I can see how some of those pictures should use some additional grinding, but my understanding was to leave the welds a bit high so that the material isn't thinned out to much through grinding operations?

In my opinion, (and I am new to welding) it's not so much the welds (even if I would have grinded them) as is the location and choise of patcharea, the wheelhouse one is right over a seam, and its welded over the cutout, so it creates a rustpocket on the other side. The torquebox is a crooked patch in the middle, with a big rusthole above it, why not make it straight to the edge.... The third one has some bad welding I think, and no one bothered to drill the holes for the heatshield...

I think the welds are ugly because the welder was too cold; as in the power was not set high enough. Depending on the type of welder and it could be that they were using a stick welder or using flux core wire. The point here is that the weld material (stick or MIG wire) is not being allowed to melt/flow into the surrounding metal so it just stacks up. Welders call this "bubble gum". Normally, you would grind it down, however I suspect if you did on these it would be very thin and would easily crack, break.

Who give's a rat's Butt hole about that patch work.

Remove and replace these is what I would do.

Hack job work is ugly and many here see it when we restore our cars.
