Bro. hit an IED....Again
« on: March 09, 2009 - 11:32:13 PM »
A few months ago my Brother had been hit by an IED and his truck rolled over. In that incident, the MRAP he was driving struck an IED. The truck rolled and the troops inside all bonked thier heads pretty good. He had some neck sorenes but was OK.

Just yesterday he calls me again with the bad news. He was struck again, his third time, and this time it was a more practiced and precise complex strike. He was moving very slowly so it was easier for the trigger man to light him off good.

He couldn't get into the details because. You gotta respect the OPSEC. But, he did say he was out for awhile. He started recognizing what all was going on back at the FOB. He was lights out for a good while.

He was lucky enough to just get some busted ear drums. I am just glad he is just still kicking.

You know, it doesn't surprise me, he's wrecked every vehicle he's ever owned.

He's lucky. Glad to hear that he's alright. Hopefully he'll get home soon.
I see alot of them at the VA clinic. They weren't so fortunate.

Im glad to hear is made it through the attack.  Those close calls dont make it any easier!  Maybe they will put him on the sideline for a day or two to decompress.  Tell him my prayers are with him and his unit.

Thanks Don and all the others. He said he was getting a few days off.

Sorry for the acronyms. Anyone who's been in the military knows that you could have a whole conversation JUST with acronyms.

An IED has been explained. It is basically a mine made out of anything explosive. They are responsible for more deaths than anything else in the wars.

An MRAP is a V-hulled vehicle that is very heavy. They can take an IED strike and keep it's occupants alive. They are very good vehicles.

Good to know he's ok. My little bro is there right now, but he is in Baghdad so he is relatively safe, for Iraq anyway. I was there too for the invasion and then a year a later.

There was a guy that went back with us the second (we were combat replacements) from weapons co. He volunteered to stay back with the next unit when we came home. Two weeks later he was killed by an IED. I also lost a good friend to an IED, it killed his whole fireteam.

I hate IEDs. At least our vehicles now are more armored than they were 6 years ago.

Glad to hear your brother is ok. I hope his ears heal completely and whoever the coward is that buried the IED gets run over by a steam roller very slowly feet first.
