No commercials?
« on: March 11, 2009 - 11:08:00 PM »
This is just an observation, and maybe just in my area.  I have not seen any GM commercials on TV. Maybe about 2 weeks now (granted I'm not watching all day either) Mopar,Ford , Toy, ect but no GM. They must be worse off than I thought.  :clueless:

I watch so little tv that I don't have a clue. Interesting though, I'll have to tell the wife to keep her eyes open. You've got me curious now. :dunno:

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall". No company is bigger and more bloated than GM. At least Chrysler has shown some improved sales with the Wrangler and Minivans that lead their respective segments in sales along with the improved market share of the redesigned truck. I've probably seen more new Challengers driving around than any other new car I can think of. 3 or 4 just in the last few days.  :ylsuper:

Lotsa GM TV commercials up here in the reat White North!

GM may be in big trouble, but Chrysler is threatening to pull out of Canada and close up it's Canadian plants (moving some manufacturing to the US and some to Mexico!) unless the Cdn government coughs up a bunch more money.  That would put about 10,000 out of work.  Currently the hourly cost of a GM employee in Canada is $75/hr.  Even with the new contract (just settled) it doesn't bring the cost half way to the hourly cost of Toyota Canada employees!

If they close up here, I wonder if the new Challenger would survive the move?

It's a real simple decision. They either concede some wages and benefits and face reality about the current state of the auto industry or work somewhere else for a whole lot less with a whole lot less benefits. Unfortunately any skills they aquired (on the companies dime) don't translate to any other jobs out there. If I were an auto worker I don't think I would call the companies bluff right now. They have to prove to the government that they are serious about becoming competitive, and that means NOT paying thier workers $20 more an hour than those working for Asian companies.

One of the area Ford dealerships has been running a radio ad lately bagging on GM in a BAD way! They have a guy bragging about just getting his tax refund when another guy says "I'll take that!" The 1st guy says "Hey, that's mine." and the 2nd. guy says "Not anymore, I'm GM and it's mine now!" The ad then goes on about how Ford isn't getting into the taxpayers' pockets and the great deals they have. Funny as heck! :smilielol:  :roflsmiley:

Ford secured loans before the crisis hit. They try to make it look like they aren't losing money hand over fist but they are.  :grinyes: Someone should ask them why the Jeep Wrangler outsells the Exploder and Expedition TOGETHER. They so flubbed the rollover thing with those they went from top selling SUV to just another loser. Nobody bought that it was all Firestones fault.  :grinno:

Maybe no TV commercials, but the local Buick/GMC dealer where we bought a PT Cruiser a few years ago called today to see if we still had it and/or needed another car from them.

ouch

I must say there are things in GM land that are truely turning. The amount of calls we have had as of late on parts for insurance claims has been unusally high. Panels and things that a body shop would buy new to save the hours of labor to trim and fit. I 've been told by a few of my shops "it's just not available". Not that I'm going to turn away any business, But it's getting a bit wierd. Today we sold a bumper assy that was "NIQ" (not insurance quality) (for and insurance claim) because new was not available. Stay tuned....

TV  :clueless:

:iagree:  I do own one but rarely watch it.  Maybe the news late night or the weather channel during the week.
