Im hopping to have my 5xx stroker started by this winter!  My man Jim has already coordinated the macine work for the block.  All I know is with Alan, Matt, Jason and hell even Drew I got a LOT of catching up to do if Im going to suck you guys up one exhaust pipe and blow you out the other!  Next summer is going to be nuts!  Way too much time in between to talk smack and build frustration!

Right Jason!      :aarg:

That are some great numbers!

I bet w/a Victor manifold, you can probably get another 20HP on the top-end, but then you'll lose lower RPM HP and TQ.  I'd stick w/what you got.

Q:  for roller lifters, do you have to bush the lifter bores?  Are they already bushed from the factory?  Sorry, newbie here w/engine stuff.

I am not familar with the term "bushed". Are you referring to bushings? There were no mods done to the lifter bore.

nice build!!!there still is alot more power in the motor for sure..i had a 500inch motor with a 650 solid cam 11.5-1 comp with a set of fully ported 906 heads, victor intake..and a holley 1050 it made 627hp..and it was all under 6100 rpms dynoed at barnnett performace in atlanta ga..but yours sure looks better than mine..pretty.. mine was all plain looking untill you hit the gas..then you knew it wasnt stock..so how much do you have tied up in it?from top to bottom?i had right at 7000 in mine..but thats when the 4.15 stroker crank cost 2000..

Well you're close. I have about 8K in the motor. Not including the tranny. I know a crate motor in the 600 plus HP range would be well over 15K so I am happy with what I have. I was on the way to a car show this morning and had a sweet looking yellow Viper with flames painted on it pull up next to me and we both nailed it. He ended up parking next to me at the show and said I scared the shi_ out of him and he believed I would have taken him on a straight run. That made my day coming from a Viper owner. The open headers is what scared him!! It's all good! :smilielol: :smilielol:

I definitely need one and want one. But right now I am spending all my money trying to get my Land Rover running. I thought I was a glutton for punishment for owning a Ford, but I just stepped up a notch with the Queen's finest! :2thumbs:Just bought a set of injectors which set me back some change!! I was coming home from a car show Saturday, peeled out real good with the Challenger on a side street and at the car wash on the corner were two police cars I didn't see. Ooops. They just looked as I smiled and waved!! :smilielol:What else could I do? They must like Mopars. They waved back!! :clapping:

Because it's a 4 1/2 inch stroke, the oil pickup tube would be in the way and has to be removed. Thus the external oiling system. It's a grunt motor and makes huge power and torque at relatively low rpm's. Yeah, it's a lot more mass than a stroked 400, but on the flip side of the coin it has to turn less rpm's to make power. No need to spin it up high. I've got the rev limiter set at 6,000 rpm. It's still got a few more ponies that I can tweak out of it. I've probably only put maybe 1000 miles on it, but it is stupid fast and just impresses the heII out of me!! Thanks for the compliments! :2thumbs: :woo: Oh & someone asked about pics of it installed; there are pictures of the beast installed if you go to: "The Classics" section, there is a sticky at the top entitled "Members Engine Bay Photos". I have pictures of it installed on page #16.

Old topic, but curious....With those massive cubes on a "stock" block, how long do you expect that engine to hold up?  I am just wondering mostly about that 4.5" stroke.  I would guess that there was some clearancing issues and that might make for more wear and tear over time??  Sounds like a pretty sweet tire roaster!

It's a trade off. Big cubes & a lot of rotating mass vs a low deck block, less cubes and less mass. The low deck block has to turn up much more rpm to make peak power (more speed =  more friction). Big block big cubes  ( 4 1/2" stroke) turns much less rpm to make peak power. I don't know how long it will last, but I expect with proper lubrication & care should last many burnouts & a few track runs!! Peak power for the big block was at 5400 rpm. The rev limiter is set at 6000 rpm. Less rpm = less friction = longer life!! :money:

The original torque converter wasn't suitable for the motor. I ended up with a 3800 TCI torque converter with also re-do of my torqueflite 727. I added a reverse/manual valve body with a Steve Griner valve body. You can goggle Steve Griner. He's a racer and done a lot of research on the subject. A lot of racers use his valve body, they're awesome and shift rock hard. The car runs much better, still very streetable and will boil the pavement. I still need a good Dana 60 for all the torque and some decent drag radials. But it's plenty fun to smoke the tires!!  :burnout:
