543 stroker build specs
« on: March 12, 2009 - 09:45:26 PM »
Hey folks,These are the specs on my 543 stroker build. I'll probably either list too much un-necessary baloney or leave out some important stuff, but here goes:

Early 70's 440 block (unsure of year) prepped for overhaul/rebuild.
440 source 543 balanced stroker kit:
(.055 over) 4.375" bore 4.500" stroke
Forged flat-top 2618 T-6 aluminum billet pistons.
4340 forged steel crankshaft
4340 steel rods, full floating .990" pins
Clevite bearings
Childs & Albert ductile iron plasma-moly file fit rings
440 source Stealth aluminum heads with full port job; 2.14/1.81" valves, 84 cc chamber size.
Comp Cams (#953-16) valve springs Open: 456 @ 1.250"
Spring Rate: 473 in/lb
Coil Bind: 1.085
Cam Motion custom ground hydraulic roller cam:
Lift: .540/.527
Duration: 240/245 @ .050
Lobe separation 110.2
Comp Cams: push rods, 10 degree super locks & retainers.
Compression at 11.04:1
Hughes Engines 1.5 ratio cnc'd aluminum roller rockers, cryogenically treated.
Hyd roller lifters.
Milodon External oiling system with Melling HV oil pump.
440 Source 7 qt. aluminum oil pan
440 Source windage tray
Carter HV mech fuel pump.
SFI certified Chrome fluid damper
Billet double roller timing chain
Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake manifold
Pro Systems 1000 cfm carburetor, mechanical secondaries.
Doug's (#D452) ceramic coated full headers. 2" primaries, 3.5" collectors.

I think that's enough of the boring details. If you would like more info on the build, just ask or PM me. The motor has not been dyno'd but is expected to make close to 650 horsepower. The motor is going in my '74 Challenger. Race built Torqueflite 727 automatic. 3,000 TCI stall converter. 8 3/4 rear end with 3:91 posi. 295-50-15 BFG's on the rear. I still need some suspension mods, but that's next tax return!! :22yikes:

Was the Intake ported to match the heads?

Matt I plugged your info into camquest 6 just assuming your heads flowed as well as full ported eddy rpms and its coming up with 630HP @ 5500 / 684TQ @ 4000

you shouldnt have any problems winning any burnout contests  :2thumbs:

Thanks guys for all the comments!!
Jason, sorry about the flu virus. That's no fun and I hope I don't catch it as my wife and daughter both have it. Thanks for plugging those numbers in. Kurt that built the motor is dead on accurate on horsepower predictions for his motor builds. He's usually within 10-15 HP of the dyno results. We were shooting for 600 on this motor and he said it would be closer to 650!! So 630 sounds about right!! I can't wait to get it in and try it out. I'm sure I'll need a change of shorts!! :roflsmiley: :smilielol: :roflsmiley: Hope you feel better this weekend Jason and can get something done. That is a wicked AWESOME setup you have   I wish I had seen your post sooner on the aluminum valve covers as I would have jumped all over that!! Now if we can just get Don to build a stroker and quit talking about it!! :poopoke:

Lets try this for the third time!! :pullinghair:
Well I took the 543 stroker to the engine dyno for a break-in and tune. It was awesome and I am still grinning! ;D The results were quite good. I have about 8 pages of test results, but the bottom line is: 610 horsepower @ 5400 RPM with 651 ft/lbs of hole stompin' torque!  :clapping: :woo: I think if it was a little cooler (cooling water was getting a little warm) and I had a chance to do a valve lash adjustment that we could have tweaked another 15 HP out of it! The Pro-Systems carb was right on the money and required little adjustment. The Stealth heads have proven themselves to be top notch. Overall a great night. We had about 3 hours on the dyno with set-up, break-in and tuning. We did maybe 8 - 10 pulls. I was in hog heaven hearing that Mopar roar. And the dyno owner is a Chevy guy, so he heard crap all night! :roflsmiley: Looks like all the components used have proven to be a great combination. Now I just gotta get it stuffed back into the car!! :burnout: :burnout: Ok Don, get busy!! :poopoke:
