Chance encounter on Friday
« on: March 15, 2009 - 01:44:31 AM »
The engine in my '57 Chevy truck is on the fritz, so my Challenger has been pulling the daily driver duty.

I'd never even seen one of the new Challengers up close until Friday when one flagged me down!!  I almost always have my camera on me, so I snapped some pictures.

Neat car.  While were stopped we got lots of people driving by.  I was kinda embarrassed because my Dodge isn't much to look at yet, but at least I can drive it.

It looks nicer than you think. I am like that also, I used to get thumbs up and honks when my paint was all cracked, faded and even patches of it missing. People dont care, they just enjoy seeing a cool car on the road. I really like the new Challengers but man dont they just swamp the old ones with their size?   :eek2:

On my trip from Kansas down through Oklahoma & over to Longbeach California with my '70 Challenger I received many thumbs up, horn tooting and people just coming up at every fuel stop and restaurant/motel. Those I spoke with were all impressed seeing a muscle car back on the road especially a MOPAR, even the Police that followed came along side and smiled and waved. They said that there were not enough on the road now.   :cooldancing:

Agree.  When we're at a stoplight or someone drives by and gives a thumbs up or yells, "cool car", my wife says "you're an egomaniac".  Guilty as charged.    :jumping:

I picked my granddaughters up from school yesterday (2nd & 3rd grade) in the Cuda. When the kids came out one boy said "Look at the cool Mustang!"  :eek4: He then asked the teacher who was standing with them if it was a Mustang and she walked around and looked at the grill and told him she thought it was a Camaro. She then leaned down and asked me if it was a Camaro and I told her it was a Barracuda. She then said "Oh, that's what I was gonna say!"

I still like the 1970 Challengers better than the new ones.  I can hardly wait to get my car going to drive it around and see what everyone thinks.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

:iagree: I love the way your Chally looks. Honestly I love cars that aren't over restored or restored at all. It brings me back to when they were a daily driver not perfect type of car. Just a nice flashback for me. Seriously you have a great looking Chally !

I was out yesterday with my 70 and met a new Orange  R/T with the hood treatment.  I flashed my lights and he flashed his.   Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.  Mine was make in Oct of 69..........Felt  the history as we passed.

Your Challenger will always look cool.  Timeless looks, that's what males them unique.   :grinyes:

heminut, I got the same deal you got but from my sister inlaw and brother inlaw.  I have a pic of my car on the desktop, he said, "Is that a Camaro?"  She said, "I think it's a Mustang..."   :faint:

Cool pics - thanks for sharing.  I get a lot of thumbs up tooling around in my beater Duster as well  :2thumbs:  Granted, I doubt they'll ever bring back the Duster like they did the Challenger  :roflsmiley:
