Carb rebuild

Has anyone rebuilt a Carter 2297, two barrel Carb before?

Tips and or tricks would be helpful as I will be attempting this in the near future.

Get a couple cans of good carb cleaner or a can of the goop to soak the parts in and then blow everything out good with high pressure air. Follow the directions in the rebuild kit carefully. They aren't hard to do.

Haven't touch a 2 bbl since I was a kid  but what the kits used to do was throw many different little gaskets inside and if you were not careful to go slow and look at each gasket you remove, then you are unsure which way the new ones went on. The ones under the boosters are were the give you 3 or 4 different ones and you need to match up the new ones and be sure it goes in right.

Maybe the kits today are better.

I have rebuilt a few of them , take note of where the ball brg sits in th eaccelerator pump , take a few pix , go slow & work your way through , they are easy to rebuild & set

Have a digital camera ready and take lots of pics, but for some reason you always end up not having a picture of the one thing you need.

I have rebuilt carbs before, however, not a Carter carburetor.

Photos will be taken as well as coypus notes.  I am glad to hear there are no surprise when rebuilding them though.

I've done a few of these BBS's back in the day.. Hate to say it, but crap when new! At least in damp wisconsin weather.  Reconfigured more than one fast idle cam.

Thanks Bigs.  I am looking forward to taking it apart.  Right now it's leaking around the top gasket, running rich, and has a bad stumble off idle, so any improvement would be nice.

Here's an exploded diagram of a Carter. They're not that difficult to re-build. I remember many years ago when I did my first carb. It was on my 318, 2 bbl. I felt kind of intimidated at first by all these parts. Like riding a bike. Once you learn, you won't forget how to.

Wow.....finding a rebuild kit turned out to be tougher than I thought.  I had to go to five different parts stores before I found one that could order it for me....

Hopefuly I will have it before the weekend.

I got the rebuild kit today. 

But I had to drop more coin on the parts dip than I did on the rebuild kit. 

I haven't bought parts dip in ten plus years.....and it has tripled in price since then.

I would just use a can or 2 of spray carb cleaner

I noticed the HUGE increase on the gallon paint cans of carb cleaner at NAPA, 53 bucks.  I passed on that and found berrymans at autozone for 19.99.  soaking for a day or 2 works better than just spraying, IMO
