    Hey guy... Ive been feeling the same pain.....  need to figure out how to fix the lead in the roof too,  and was working outside too....  in Seattle.......  ugh...   My car sat for a long time as well... it bites not having a place to work on it so I just bought a bigger house.  I posted for the first time in a month because Ive been so busy.
    Any how you may not be able to buy a place now to work on it, but dont sweat it, get it sealed up with rust proofing sealer and either store it or Maaco it..  just dont let it sit and continue rusting...  dont give up hope and hang in there.

    Thanks for the encouragement Wheels. I finally had the same thought this year about not letting it sit and continue rusting -- I was starting to feel guilty. There's a nice black '73 Challenger Rallye in someone's backyard in the next town that's been on blocks for at least 10 years now. When I first saw it the body & paint was in nice shape but every time I drive by it's a little more rusty. Pretty soon there won't be anything left.

    I would LOVE to get a new house with a garage, or build a garage if my lot was big enough. Unfortunately prices around here (Boston area) are completely insane. Example: the house across the street from me is about the same as mine -- 2 bedroom cape, 1100 SF at most, no garage, 7000 SF lot. It just sold for $365K. A similar one down the street is on the market for $385K. If I wanted to step up in the same town (which I would, since our kids are in school here and we've "rooted" in the past 11 years) It would cost me at least $550K to get what I'd want. Obviously not gonna happen.

    Anyway, glad to hear that you'll be back into your project, let me know how it goes.

    (I was going to apologize for hijacking this thread, but then I realized it's mine and I can do whatever I want!  ;D )

    LOL!  Well driveway work isnt all bad, its just around here it drizzles alot.......  and is just damp, so exposed metal is not happy.  Like I said in my thread, just do a little at a time and seal prime as you go, stay away from sandible primers because they are very porous.  When your ready to sand it prior to paint you can use a sandable primer over the seal primer I think... to get it smooth,  that what Ive been doing, although Ive just been using a metal sealer primer like Rust Seal or Por 15 so far.  Good luck to ya!

    Oh, and on the housing cost topic...  I hear you...  a 3br 1 bath rambler was 100k in 90...  Its now more than double that now..... Most 3br 2 bath, 2 car garages houses are 250 and up, most decent ones are 280-300k and thats not in the city.  When property values go up that much, sometimes its better to just add on to your current house.

    The other option is to put up a portable shelter to at least keep the worst of the rain of it.Housing prices aren`t quite as bad up here in NH but it still cost us $289k for a nice 3 bedroom colonial with 2 car garage on two acres.

    HOLY CRAP!  Where are you people living???

    I have a 2,700 SF house, 4 bedroom, finished basement, 200 SF 2 car garage, 2.5 bathroom, walk-in ensuit closet, swimming pool, full deck, rock garden, koi pond with fountain, corner lot, 1000 SF lot  14 yrs old

    In the capital city of Canada, and it cost me $238K...CANADIAN!!!!  AND the BANK paid the 12% downpayment, so I didn't even have to have any money up front!

    It's very depressing....

    But enough of that -- I  made some better progress this weekend. I stripped the roof down (again) then used Eastwood OxySolv to treat the surface rust before repainting. The OxySolv was kind of weird, it never really dried, it stayed kind of tacky. I had to scrub it off with lacquer thinner before I painted.  Anyone ever use this before? Is it worthwhile?

    I also used my sandblaster for the very first time, on some miscellaneous small parts like the hood latch plate and release lever, and the rear license plate bracket. That was the best!!! I can't believe how much easier that was than using a wire brush to strip the paint/rust! Unfortunately I did it right under the kitchen window and I got in trouble because I got a thin coating of dust all over the counter...

    Sweet!!  That is lookin really good!!  Yep, those houses look pretty expensive . . . the first one would run probably just under 200k and the secend 240-260k in my area.  I like how they say the "house is detached" ??  Silly REALTORS!! I would prefer that my house is attached to something like . . . . maybe the basement?? j/k  ::)   Do you have any room where you can build a house??  I would imagine that would add alot of value to your current home with prices like that!! $25,000 garage could add $60,000 in value!  ;)
