Mopar XHD rear springs? Help choosing my suspension?
« on: March 16, 2009 - 10:46:34 AM »
Hi all!
I've seen a few replies like this one? ( see below ) What are your thoughts about the Mopar springs? I'd like good handling( I'm not delusional I know it will never be a viper! LOL ) but I don't want to wear a kidney belt either when driving!LOL Car is a 440/727 with air shocks??? :puke:
I'm thinking on using 1" torsion bars. and a bigger sway bar.Where else do you guys get springs if not Mopar? What's my options?  Some detailed suggestions would be helpful! Any known combinations?
I will NOT be reusing my air shocks. Someday when funds permit I'd like to get QA1's.
I understand I can't have it all, but would like to lean a LITTLE towards handling vs comfort.
Thanks Brad

« Reply #17 on: Today at 10:24:38 AM »Quote The Mopar XHD leaf springs are made in Mexico and sit flat when new. You may want to rethink that choice. I have a brand new set on my car and still run air shocks to raise my car an inch. My trunk is loaded with car care stuff and a tool box though, but not that heavy.

I agree , the XHD Mopar springs drop approx 1 " after installation & generally sit a bit too low in the rear , you can add 1 extra  full lenght leaf  to the pack or you can order leafs from Espo

Thanks again Chryco! Espo is about 1/2 hour from my inlaws in PA! :2thumbs: What would I ask for? Just tell them engine size? Maybe that I want the car to sit at stock height?? 1" higher, more?? Whats your recommendations? What do you think about the different bushings? Poly etc..
Thanks Brad

I like stock height , you could go 1" higher & use a lowering block to adjust height if it is too high

Starting point would be to just tell them you want factory style xhd E body springs, stock height, and then maybe outline whatever plans you have for it horsepower or handling wise and they can give you recommnedations from that point.

The thing about mopar springs is when they are installed, they should have very little arch to them. At proper ride height you might have about 2" of arch to them, which to many will appear darn near flat. The oval track handling springs were actually offered in 1" and 0" arches.

Bushings wise, your intended purpose may be used to decide which ones provide the best benefits. Rubber is comfortable, poly is firm with minimal deflection, aluminum or bronze are dedicated race parts.

I just placed my order with ESPO .  http://www.espo.com/
That worked out well as they are 1/2 hour from my In-laws so he's going to pick it up for me and meet up with me in Buffalo next weekend. ( Thanks again Chryco! ) It worked out to be a little cheaper than what I could get the Mopar units for locally but I'll take all your advice that these are better!
( won't sag )
I e-mailed ESPO and told them I  was recommended via this site to use them, and hinted that maybe they would think of making a donation or be a sponsor to this site?
Hey it all helps!
Thanks again guys!! I just love new parts for the Dodge!!! :woohoo:
bye bye air shocks!!!

Hi Brad,

The 6-leaf springs 1 1/2 inches over stock height are $260/pr, Front poly bushings are $22/pr; shackles w/poly are $78/pr; eye bolts $6/pr; ubolts $16/set of 4.  Shock studs are $38/pr.  It usually take us 3-4 days to get ready so pickup for this week wouldn't work, but you could order them for pickup next week.  If getting everything listed, it would be $445.20 (includes tax)
