    Getting parts into Canada

    I am ready to order floor pans, carpets, seat covers, trunk floor, rear 1/4s and a bunch of misc. parts.
    So, here are some questions for Canadian members.   :canada:

    1.   In your experience, is it best to get the stuff from the US and pay the exchange, delivery and duty or find somewhere in Canada that can supply the items I need?  Another alternative I suppose is to get it delivered to a postal service in Washington and then bring it across myself.

    2.   Any idea what the sort of duty I will have to pay?

    3.   Is there a vendor in Canada who can supply the better quality items, not the poorly fitting stuff that I have been reading about on this site?


    I would like to get the parts from CC members, but I'm working on a pretty tight budget and want the best bang for my Canukbuck.  Maybe I should just push it across the 49th and do the work in the US!!!!!!

    it is a difficult call , I have a supplier in Calgary that can get All of the top Quality AMD body parts but he pays all the same taxes I do to import so the price works out higher through him by the time he makes a profit , Dealing with Dave @ Roseville helps as he offers a discount to members here & that help to negate the difference in the $ but you still pay shipping, the only taxes to pay are the $5 handling fee through Canada Customs & the 5% GST Assuming you do NOT use UPS , I had the parts I ordered shipped through USPS postal

    Hi, You only pay gst and pst on the cdn dollar amount of the part. If it is made in China the they can get stickey with duties, but I haven't come across that yet. I have brought hundreds of parts for my car. I get the bigger parts here, such as floor pans etc. with excahnge and shipping, it is the same. I did buy glass for my car from the US and had it shiped to a border town and I picked it up. With fuel costs, i make several purchases and go get them all at the border town at once. Many parts are not available here so the US is the only choice. good luck and don't get anything shipped UPS as their broker fees are huge

    I get most of my parts in  :canada: . The only parts that i get out of the  :wavingflag:  are the hard to find parts and pieces. Sometimes if it is a good deal on something I will purchase but I make sure to tell them to ship it USPS and to mark the package "used antique auto parts" and mabey even gift. This will eliminate or at least cuty down on the duty fees. :bigsmile:

    If you order from the US, do not use UPS! They do not have an internal broker and you will get nailed. Use FedEx.

    :iagree:   NEVER NEVER use UPS. I bought a $200 cordless drill off E-bay.The seller lived in Buffalo about 2 hours away and it got shipped via UPS . They nailed me $100 just for "brokerage fee's" plus the taxes. I will NEVER use them again to cross the border. EVER!!   "What can Brown do for you" ? Absolutely nothing!!  :stomp:

    You can use UPS but you need to let them know you will clear the item through customs yourself.  A little bit of running back and forth as you have to go to UPS and get the documents then slip over to customs, which is usually close and clear the item yourself.  Then you bring the completed documents back to UPS and pick it up.  It is much cheaper. 

    Here in Winnipeg I use http://www.menkesparcel.com/ .  They are cheap and as long as the item is marked antique auto parts or has the year and model of vehicle(over 25 years old) and was made in the US there is no duty.  You still have to pay the taxes though, they'll never give that cash grab up.

    I had a member here send me a small box with spring retainers in it , I forgot to tell him NO UPS so it arrived marked as a free gift & UPS wanted $80
     I use UPS for NOTHING they are a total rip off

    I have all  my parts shipped to an address in Niagara Falls NY and then head over to pick them up when I get a few orders in.
    There is no duty but if you ship it into Canada you will be hit with a huge brokerage fee from any of the shipping companies.
    It doesn't matter who you use you will get charged.
    What stopped me from getting parts shipped into Canada was when I had a parcel that weighed 5lbs and had a worth of $25.00. I got nailed $60.00 dollars in brokerage fees.
    So it's worth it to me to go and pick up multible orders at one time.
    The border guards can be a pain in the ass, no matter how truthful I am about the parts they still try to screw with you on something.
    Make sure when you cross you have the exact total that you have spent on the parts including shipping.
    Don't make an estimate. :canada:

    I have also been taken to the cleaners by UPS when i had my electric cut outs delivered.  :swear:
