Safety first......................
« on: March 19, 2009 - 05:47:04 PM »
Got some rust embedded in my eye while working on my leaf springs last weekend, (YES I had safety glasses on, but somehow it got by).
Have been off from work the last few days, and at the hospital so they could scrape it out with a needle  :scared:  :22yikes:
Not the funnest experience I've ever been through, and still a bit blurry  :eek7:  :eek4:
I did not start this to be a .....("O yea, I have more stitches than you" fight)
Just a friendly reminder to try and be as safe as possible when you are out there working on your  :working:
It only takes a second to really ruin your day  :walkaway:
Please be cautious, and aware of what you are doing, and how you are doing it.
Even when you are trying to be carefull accidents can still happen  :2cents:

I've been grinding/cutting junk all day, too.  5 years ago or so I had the same thing happen, really sucks.  The best thing to do is to probably wear goggles, that would be the only way to keep everything out.

But I'm sure that I had a much larger piece and was in way more pain.   :poopoke: :stirpot:

i cut the first digit of my index finger off, and continued working while my helper passed out, becoming of no use to me anyhow. actually, i never noticed the production differance.

and yes its a true story.

Well a long time ago I actually got a small metal sliver stuck straight into my eye at work and they had to freeze and numb my eyball to dig it out in the emergency room so I think I win!   :ylsuper:

Metal and rust in your eye just doesnt go away till you get it remove. I know the emergency room procedure routine. It sucks. I am a grinder by trade. My machines are around 3000 lbs for the big one and 700 for the little grinder. And they are portable. So I work inside and out side with them. Fans and the wind can make my job a nightmare. I use magnets like chryco says, and I keep them all over my machines trying to cath the metal dust. I have ground over 500 lbs of metal dust just this week.

Safety is a key factor.

I have a scare on my left breast from a grinder and I think there is still some steal in my chest also from grinding and I know I have had rust and things in my eyes several times from over the years even with safety goggles and taking all of the safety precausions I could still things get into your eyes.   Safty first.

Just kiddin'.  Hope your finger is okay.  :)

Jeff, dude, hope your eye heals well.  You really appreciate your vision when it gets messed up.

Hope everything returns to normal!  :grinyes:
