727 tailshaft question.

I have a chance to buy a 727 out of a mid 70s dodge van for our 71 Demon project. The seller tells me that the 727 only has one tailshaft length, that there is no long or short shaft. I thought there was a long and short shaft transmission, but it's been many years since I looked at a 727 in a car. Will the truck tranny work in the A body Demon?

The short shaft one is REALLY short and has a "bolt on " yoke on it. You can change the output shaft and extension housing to make it work.

The owner said his were long shaft. Two were out of mid 70s model trucks and one was out of a 78 van. He was supposed to send pictures. So the long shaft tranny is the one I want, right?

The 727 in my Cuda was originally in my 74 Dodge van. It bolted right in without any problems. Oldkimmer may be right about the shifter boss though, I don't remember if mine had it or not. I'm using a B&M shifter.

It is not just the truck cases that don't have the shifter boss,the earlier Torqueflites ('70ish and earlier) don't have them either. Good point though.

...........Hey Terry, the shifter boss I was referring 2 is the 2 holes on the tailshaft housing that the support bracket bolts 2  4 the shifter rod that comes thru the floor on consol cars.................kim...........

Yes,that one also,but the extension housing can be easily changed,but the case not.
