    The original scoops may not be very functional, but they sure look good.  Nothing like a Challenger hood with a blackout center section.  :cooldancing:

    If nothing else, it may help vent more hot air out of the cowl

    If you still have the factory snorkel air filter housing, you can make a setup using dryer ducting (4" diameter) and have some scoops mounted just under the front valance, like the old Olds 442 cars did.  Just have to watch out for big puddles and such.

    Thats the kind of setup I have seen put together. Seems to me it would work pretty good unless like stated that you sucked in a bunch of water. I would think some sort of screen would be in order as not to suck in leaves and bugs.

    I think Goody has a similar set up but not that low, I think behind the grill somewhere....


    You can get one of these air filter housings too, then mount to grill/under valance/to hood scoops....

    Now that’s what I’m talking about, is that type of kit available, is it entirely home made or is that the factory setup for the Olds, (we don’t have much to do with Oldsmobile here in Australia).

    It seemed to pickup some on the highway pulls after I installed it. I definitely noticed a change on the cooler nights. I wouldn't consider it anything near "ram air", just "fresh" or "cooler" air. I don't like the idea of sucking air from under the hot engine bay..

    so if i am understanding that diagram corectly then the 98-02 camaro ss scoop doesnt work and my moms 72 mach 1 ram air doesnt work? I have been thinking and making some card board templates for one on my rt hood. If it doesnt actually work then at least it will look cool

    No, they work. They are just not very efficient because of the layer of slower moving air right above the hood. I think its a great idea myself and with a healthy setup would have to be good for 10-15 hp I would think.

    It has about 0-1% effect on your vehicle.  Unless the scoop gets above the boundry layer, it will do nothing.

    I think that figure is too low. Even if the air is moving slower its much cooler and the engine is still going to pull in what it needs. It really doesnt matter if its a ram air effect, the fact that its cooler=denser=more power. I am not saying its a huge amount but it has to be worth more than 1%
