My pig pen of a garage
« on: March 20, 2009 - 05:16:05 PM »
I have put off cleaning out my pig pen garage for years and years. I was to the point where I was just throwing stuff on top of other stuff and could barely get through the door. Well when I found out that I could not rent a storage facility to put my car together and I was told to get my car this Saturday, I had to come up with a new plan of action so.........

I am getting off my lazy butt and cleaning it out. My dad has a 2 story barn that has my Challenger interior in the upstairs right now and he is graciously allowing me to store some of my bits and pieces in his barn. I last cleaned it out about 9 years ago and boy can I tell it. I have baby potty seats, my sons old floaties and dinosaurs, you name it, its in there. I took some pics but I will wait to post them till tonight, I am taking a break but need all the daylight I can get to getter done. I guess it will be nice to have my Challenger at the house but a single car garage leaves a lot to be desired for working on a car. My plan is to get it as empty as I can to minimize the chance that crap will fall on my car and scratch it. I already installed and wired up a couple of flourescent lighting fixtures and will put in a couple more when I got the scratch to get them. Its already set up to extend the wiring on to the next 2 fixtures so I am good there. I bought a garage door opener about 5 years ago, I guess its about time to install that too lol.

Never realized how time flies till you take a trip down memory lane in a junked out garage lol. Well I guess I better get back to the grind......to be continued and thanks for listening to my short, sad story

LOL I remember that thread and I actually posted in there that there was no way I would put up a pic of my garage. Well tonight some time I guess I will lol. Will you guys still love me in the morning? I think I would actually win it by a pretty good margin. No dead cats or poop though, that would be the straw that broke the camels back lol.

Thankfully I'm single. I can't imagine any woman being fine with my car stuff in the spare bedroom, and even the living room.  :misbehaving:

This is twisting my nerves up. I have resized pics twice and now when I submit pics it says I already submitted the post! Screw the long typing session, here hopefully are 3 damn pics showing what it looked like at the start and the last one is where I am at now.

LOL. Well I finally got it going my way. I had way more **** in there than I thought. I have way too many fans, way too many hood hinges, way too many.....well you know. Yes those are dynamite boxes, no there is no dynamite in them. Spent quite a while today wiring up and installing the lights. When I started this morning there was a single bulb outlet in the middle of the garage, now I can go out any time of the night and actually see wtf I am doing in there  :2thumbs:  Well spent 100 bucks. I dont plan on re-sheetrocking the ceiling so I did not drill the studs for the romex. I had to repair the trusses several years ago. It started to collapse from rain collection and the fact that the builder used knotty pine for the trusses. Sure did wear me out and I am really only halfway there. It will be a push to get it done in time to get the car tomorrow. I took more pics but the site was messing with me and not posting them even though they showed to be under the limit. Back out there now to put up stuff I dont want stolen tonight lol.

I feel your pain. There was a thread on here recently on the messiest garage. I think I was in the top 5. Maybe higher. I too have a one car garage and an attached workshop. I did like you and got it all out. I suggest installing shelves. I got a shelving kit that had the metal angle iron braces (which you can actually make yourself), bought 3/4" plywood and installed two 2' deep by 16 ft long shelves on each opposing wall. That's 64 feet of 2 ft deep shelving. I got a TON of crapola off of the floor and was able to pull the car into the garage after nearly 10 years!! Looks like you're on your way!! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Jim, it looks like I have many grilles but really just 2 good ones. I was thinking about the shelves and I plan on doing some too. It will be down the road a bit as money is getting tight. My wife pleaded with me not to make the garage cleaning episode a money pit. The woman knows me, I planned on getting that epoxy paint kit and doing the floor, well I will have to wait on that now lol. I put the good stuff up in the garage for the night and will go ahead and knock off. I am too damn old to be pulling all nighters like I used to. I can remember turning the stereo on, cracking open some cold ones and changing an engine overnight, not any more lol.
