Whats with car buyers now adays?
« on: March 22, 2009 - 07:30:45 PM »
I've been trying to sell my volvo 740 wagon with a 5.0HO mustang engine in it.  I keep telling people to make me offers and I've had at least 4 people message me saying "So like...what kind of offer would you take?"  Doesn't ANYONE offer anymore?!  Not like I'm going to take it, I might but the offer is where the whole sale starts!  Seriously... :swear:  Had to get that off my chest, been such a pain trying to sell the car to volvo people...thats why I bought a dodge project car, because I can't stand the volvo crowd. Dodge folks > Volvo folks.

Name a price, anyone serious about selling names a price.

To me "making an offer" on anything I am interested in buying is a waste of my time, it usually means the seller is not motivated to sell & / or wants too much for it.

I said $3,500 OBO, accepting offers.  And they still ask me whats reasonable, pretty sure from $3,500 its their job to determine if the car is worth that to them and if not make me an offer below that, not this will you offer the car to me for cheaper because I can't pick a number?

That is different then.

If they did not make an offer, they are not that interested.

I think people are sometimes intimidated with "make an offer". At least in your case you listed a price. In your case I know where to start and don't have to try and "feel you out". I, on the other hand have seen posts even on this site where no price is given, just "Make an offer" When no price is given, I do often feel intimidated because I feel that I will offer way too low and insult the seller or offer way too high and end up paying far more than the seller would have accepted. I think sometimes that is the intent of the seller, that someone will make an offer that far exceeds what he was expecting to get. I like it where there isn't a lot of guessing and I at least know where to start. You did that, so I think you should have some offers. Maybe folks are afraid of the Ford motor in the Volvo?? :dunno:

Don't know where to sell this car other than on the volvo forum, I've posted probably over 50 pictures of the car.  I practically wrote a book on what I did to the car in the post

Tell them a good place to start is $4,000 then they will offer you the $3500 you are asking for the car.

I always low ball an offer so we have a good  :roflsmiley: and then get serious.

Being that I own a 90 740 turbo wagon as a daily driver I'd love to see pics of yours!! I have also performed a 5.0 conversion on a 960 sedan for a customer of mine. He just sold it and got like 7500 for it! I know several Volvo guys and will pass the word around. Please send me some pics and details to dynamicauto@bellsouth.net
Hell for that price I might be interested. I've got a couple of people who are interested in mine because of the fact its a 5 speed which is kinda of rare. Nothing like the look on someones face when you bark 2nd gear in moms wagon!!1 :icon16: :roflsmiley:

:iagree:  I always just ask the guy,"What's your lowest price?" (1) if I wasn't interested I wouldn't waste his or my time. (2) if your price is more than I'm willing or able to spend...........thanks, but no thanks. (3) why should I attempt to value your car? If I offer way less then the guy wants he thinks of me as an A.H.

In this case your quoted what is at least a begining price, why can't they see and understand that?
