Body Question about Rust !
« on: March 24, 2009 - 05:29:10 PM »
Came across a 70 cuda on cudaworld.com, was wondering if you sandblast the body will it be ready for the next step in restoration, or something else. For example Ive seen a chevelle body dipped in some type of heated liquid, to get rid of the rust, would that work?

Problem there is not the rust but the weakened & warped metal caused by the fire it was in.
Chemical Dip would take care of removing the rust & something I think called e-coating where an electrostatic charge is used to get sealer in all the hidden areas.

Has that car been in a fire?  Is that what the add says over on cudaworld?
It sure doesn't look very warped from the one picture.
I have seen a few cars that had rust absolutely everywhere that look like this.
That car really doesn't look very warped. If it went through a fire, it didn't get very hot like
the other cars I have seen with fire damage.
Looks rebuildable.

The right rear window corner; I'm wondering about.
Doesn't look good from this perspective.

Wow!  How does a burned hulk go from $1,600 to $3,700 in less than 6 months.  Maybe I should go burn mine and see what kind of appreciation I can get.  :villagers:

spending more $$ on the initial purchase will virtually always save $$ in the long run with less parts needed to be located & replaced

That car has burned up in a pretty hot flame. Look  where the A-pillar join the roof. There should be a lead filled seam and now I'm only seeing the empty seam without lead. I think that it takes close to atleast 600 fahrenheit for extended period of time to melt the lead away that completely
