Dam i hate craigslist
« on: March 27, 2009 - 11:36:11 PM »
Every time i try and sell something on craiglist I get all the wannabee idiots out there emailing me. I have a 383/727 FOR 500 and a 440/727 for 600 on now. I get all kinds of questions like what did the motor come out of and whats the date code? WHO CARES, Once the number engine is gone its GONE!!! Especially the question about what car did it come out of, like that makes a difference or if anyone can really tell by a vin. The other question is how was it running before you pulled it? Any idiot that would buy a 500 dollar engine and not rebuild it shouldn't be working on cars. I guess most people think they can buy an engine for 500 bucks that is fresh rebuilt.
Sorry to rant, just tired of idiots :pullinghair:

I prefer date codes 72 and prior myself and would ask that. And if it was running might say it isn't froze up and a cracked block. Actually simple questions being asked.

SOOOOOOOOOOO   what yer 440  sounds like a good deal

cool, very good deal.  Many people are looking for date code correct e and f stamped blocks for period correct. But I bet you get annoyed being flooded with all the questions. So maybe give it all in a modify and save some anger.

If you want to sell, it, you have to cater to potential buyers by answering their questions.  :2cents:

Or, you could just list ALL the info in the ad and save them the trouble. Best of luck with that.  ;)

:iagree: The more info you put in the ad the less questions you get.Date codes and casting numbers are important to some people and there are differences depending on what it came out of.If the engine was running decent before it was pulled why would it not be good to drop in?You gotta expect questions about items you are selling and of course you always get a couple boneheads who ask the exact thing you already stated in the ad.

I've actually had a lot of good luck with craigslist.  You're always going to get a lot of looky-loos, but the more info you put in the better.  The worst experience I had was when I listed a car, and kept getting offers for trades.  I went back and added "No Trades", and that was the end of that.  Some items I've had to work to sell, others sell to the first caller the same day I post them.

Seems like you're making a big deal out of nothing. Of course people are going to ask questions. What kind of idiot buys an engine and tranny without asking any questions about it at all?

LOL, I was thinking the same exact thing.  I'd sure like my original engine back if I didnt have it.   :2cents:

Generaly speaking my experience w Craigs list has been a PITA! Again, stating exactly what it is (item) and either getting email on what the person is looking for or what they want. (If its not what I'm advertising why waste your time and mine??).   Or if (example) I have something for $100, I'll get emails will you take $50?? And they never even saw the it (item). I always make offers on things I've never seen!  :screwy:

I never said i wouldn't answer questions, but I know how to sniff out a tire kicker when i see one. I get the same guys calling/emailing me every time i list something. They ask alot of questions and never buy anything.

Wait till you try and sell a car on Craigslist. The Nigerian scammers come crawling out of the Jungle.  :blah: about sending it to Africa etc.

Even though i agree with you Barry, maybe the problem is that I'm an outside sales Rep for 23 different manufacturers and i get tired of answering stupid questions. I don't like to do that when i get home, lol.

You could always list the items for free.....

& then charge 5 bucks a question. It might be a real money maker.
