1971 Challenger for sale *** SOLD ***

This is painful...

1971 Challenger for sale. R/T clone. 383 4BBL. Automatic. Interior needs to be restored, floorpans are rusted thru. Engine looks and sounds okay but probably needs a tune-up and a good run. Electrical system needs to be rewired (I have a wire harness kit from Ron Francis in the box). Body is in good shape, a couple little rust spots, a good "20-footer". Brakes and suspension are good.

I paid $13,500 for it last summer. I'd like to get what I paid for it but the best offer over $11,000 takes it. My Challenger is located in Kent Cliffs, NY in Putnam County.

I'm about to lose my job so there is no way I can restore my car and I don't want to see it rust away, it needs to be preserved and I know one of you guys will take care of it, that's why I'm listing it here first. If anyone is interested I have more photos so just let me know. Steve

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Your car is pretty similar to mine in that it looks awesome in pictures from 20ft but still has some work to be done. Still a good looking car though, and a '71! (I love 71's).

Best of luck with the sale, I'd say your price is reasonable, its too bad the economy is so hard right now.

This looks like a great project. Wouldnt take a whole lot of money to complete. Heck someone could throw floor pans in it and ride!!!

I changed the oil this weekend and smelled antifreeze in the oil so I guess a headgasket is leaking. Hey, good time for an engine rebuild while you do a frame-up restoration! Just want to keep it honest.

There's a remote possibility that I may keep my job.  They threw us a bone at work to keep us productive and not totally dejected. If that happens I'll be able to put some money into the Challenger project and maybe get it done someday before the government makes Challengers illegal and immoral.

Just out of curiousity can anyone give me a very rough idea of how much money it would take to do a rotisserie job and get the engine rebuilt? Not looking for car show competition quality, just a good looking solid driver for cruising and beating up on the ricers. Thanks guys!

1 Arm + 1 Leg and maybe some other body parts for good measure...

if you can do the work yourself, you may spend somewhere around $5k, thats just a guess..... im figuring quarter skins, paint, maybe $2k into the motor?

Well, today I went to the first car show of the season for us here in southern  NY (at Rhinebeck) and found only two gorgeous Challengers - a 71 and and a 74 (and two very cool owners) and damn if I don't have the Mega Jones to carry on with my Challenger project and screw the frickin' money. There must have been 1000 truly great cars at the show but the two best were Challengers, no doubt. A few owners revved up their Chevys, Fords and Whatevers but I knew even from 100 yards away that it was not a Mopar, the sound was all wrong and wimpy. The owner of the 71 Challenger woke up his 383 Magnum for a possible buyer and it was like heaven. You know what I mean, nothing sounds like a big block Mopar. When I got home I lit up a cigar and a martini, fired up my 71, with all it's issues, and thanked God for allowing me to own a 383. We band of brothers...

Nope, just some half-worn BF Goodrich T/A Radials.
