Finally installed my Hooker Super Comps (5115)! I bought these almost a year ago at a swap meet for $200. Ceramic coated even. No dents, a few minor scratches from installation. I was going to wait until I installed my new 340, but I got tired of waiting  :biggrin:, and figured I was going to lay them on the inner fenders for installation anyway so I might as well just do it.

Installation was WAAAY easier than I thought it would be. I know people have talked about jacking up the engine, disconnecting the steering column, all kinds of stuff, so I was a little worried. But I figured I would just disconnect one thing at a time until they fit. I put them in from the bottom after I jacked the car up and put it on 6 ton jackstands (3 ton aren't tall enough for this).

I had to remove the starter on the drivers side, but that was it. On the passenger side I had to pull the oil filter, but again, that was it. I didn't drop the steering link either. The starter was a little fun to get back into place, I put it back in before I bolted up the header, might need to unbolt the header to pull it out, but I have the ancient stock-style boat-anchor type still  :icon16:. I'll probably buy a mini-starter for the 340  :grinyes:. Oil filter is the long type, no adaptor. Its a little tighter than it was before, but no big deal.

Only "issue" I have at the moment is the shift linkage just touches the collector on the driver's side (904 floor shift). Doesn't seem to effect shifting any, I may grind a 1/16" little notch in the collector just to be sure. The header bolts were a PITA, but I think thats just the way it is.

Sorry guys, no pictures on this one yet. I'm still working on getting my Summit X pipe in, forgot the headers don't end up "even" under the car so I need to spend a little more time fitting. It looks just like the pics that Vinb has put up, plus a few others, except my engine is dirtier, and my headers need polishing  :biggrin:. I haven't pulled the pan or anything like that to get rid of the minor oil drips, hoping the new 340 will cure that!  :2thumbs:

Easy headers to install, have them on my 340 car..
My only complaint is they are not exactly equal lengths, but then again its only a street car...

Sweet. Good choice for headers!! Sounds like a decent fit with little headache!! It wouldn't be right if I didn't do this. Someone else will if I don't so here it goes.... :useless:

whats the ground clearance like? Im having an issue with smaking my headers and there is no way i will raise the car back up. Thank you

the TTI , Dougs & the Hooker 5115 have far better ground clearance as they do not go below the steering like every other header made

Ok, here's a picture of what I've got. I've changed it a couple times, but as you can tell by the welds I'm done changing it back to the x-pipe at least. I still need to put some turn downs on it to get the exhaust out from under the car a little better, CO poisoning is no good  :eek7:. Please forgive my MIG welding, today was actually the first time I've MIG'd. Lots of time TIG welding, but my access to a TIG is a bit more limited so I bought a MIG for my garage and am still figuring it out! Can't seem to get the same "feel" for the weld as with TIG, gotta spend more time practicing...

Anyway, so here's my ~$350 dollar system  :icon16: - $200 Hooker 5115's, $80 Summit 2.5" X pipe kit, 2 $20 Summit glass-packs, and some extra 2.5" and hangers. The angle on this makes the whole thing look a little goofy, the "X" is only an inch off the floorboards and there's actually a decent angle on the pipes/glass-packs after the X, they're tucked up pretty well under the raised section for the rear seat. I used longer bolts through the seat belt mounts and ran the hangers off of those, just a flat mount with the rubber section turned at 90*, the top of the 'paks are only maybe an inch or so below the floor under the seat.


Ground clearance is less than with a stock system for sure, although the headers aren't the lowest part of the system, the x-pipe actually is since you can't run the exhaust tucked slightly into the floor tunnel like stock with the "X" in there. So far so good with dragging the headers. I did drag the exhaust clamps in the back when I had it set up for side-exit but no issues so far now that I have the glass-packs tucked up under the seat area. The side exit wasn't going to work with frame connectors, and there just wasn't any space to tuck the glass-packs up in to. I guess I know why 'Ma Mopar ran the T/A side exit back below the seat and then forward again out the side...

I'll try and take some shots from the side with it on the ground, although I'm working this weekend so it may have to wait until next week. I'm guessing between 3-4" to the pipes from the pavement, although I'm lowered 2" in the front and stock in the back. Only 12" from the center of the wheel hub to the lip of the fender in the front!

And yes, it is loud:grinyes:

It replaces the stock manifolds and pretty much stock 2" system. It was minus resonators, just the mufflers out back with goofy looking turndowns (no cut outs for tips I guess). Getting ready for the 340! :2thumbs: I still have the OE style mufflers if anyone wants them, the actually look pretty new, no rust.

Lowest parts are the collectors and the X, both at 3" off the deck with the lowered front end and lowish stock height rear, the xhd's really sagged. No pictures yet, I'll try again Monday.
