Another one in need of rescue
« on: March 29, 2009 - 10:25:45 PM »
Visiting inlaws in a small town in S.C. I got bored so I decided to cruise around and low and behold I spot a familiar shape hiding out underneath a blue tarp at an old storage facility along main road in town. At first I rode by thinking it was probably just a Camaro, but then the curiosity got the best of me and I turned around to take a closer look. The place was fenced in however I could get close enough to see that indeed it was an e-body!!! The tarp was wet so I could see through it a little. I could see that it was a vinyl roof car and the unmistakable chrome mirror poking out. Beyond that I could not tell for sure if it was a Cuda or a Challenger. I could tell that it had bumper guards on it so I know that it was a 73 or 74. Looks like it had been already sitting there for a while and sadly it will probably rot there. I got the number to the storage facility and going to call this week to find out whats up with it.

Good job following your instincts. Hey you never know, maybe they'll be ready to let go and sell it to you or someone for a good deal.

Called the # to the storage facility and the man who answered told me that indeed its a 73 Cuda. He was extremely suprised that I could tell what it was!! He also told me that the car has been sitting there for "years and years". I asked if he knew the owner and he told me it was no use in calling him because he had sent the owner several potential buyers and the owner is NOT going to sell it. The storage guy also speculated that he thought the car was probably a rust bucket by now of which I agreed. So sad!!!

Then again ive read many stories of people who were persistent and eventually were able to buy a car. This guy who owns it could have a sudden life change and might sell, just have to be the one standing there when he does.

That is very true you never know what may have happened and if he might just give you a buy on it now.  Good eye I know it dont take much for me to spot one either. Good luck in finding out about it.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I'll be happy to PM the # to anyone who is truely interested. The guy I called said that he is retired and letting the owner keep the car there eventhough the storage facility is officailly out of business. The car is located in Sumter SC. I'd do more digging myself but as things are I'm lucky to be keeping Ol Blue in my garage! :violin:

I dont see it that way. He blacked out the number on the building and someone could save this car from a permenant dirt nap.He went about it the right way.If i leave my things out in the open and someone takes a pic theres nothing i can do about it.It never hurts to ask. Some day this guy will part w/it and the last one to leave his number could get a call.
