help needed-replacing everything electrical in column
« on: March 30, 2009 - 05:46:56 PM »
Hello,
I have a new to me cloumn floor shift column to replace the column shift. Unsure of year? Seller said it was for a 1970? I really don't care, just want it to work.
As it says I'm replacing everything electrical and the key cyl. (1970 Challenger)
Question I have the CD manual on page 8-96 and 8-97 coming from the ignition switch 3rd from the end marked e2-18o   On the old ignition switch it's orange , on the new it's black. the instructions( which don't even list it for an e-body? ) with the switch say it's a ground but the CD manual it says it goes to an instrument lamp? Then it goes into the fuse block? Which is correct? The switches appear the same except for this thin black wire mounts between the heavy yellow and blue wires on the new switch and the old one has the orange wire that goes to nowhere from the plug?
Next question, how do I get the key buzzer wires out of the plug? As the new switch doesn't come with it? Something tells me "don't just pull on it" ?
Thanks guys! ( and girls )
Brad

Hey brad,

I wish I could help you but I can't.  I am sure someone will though.

I do have a question for you...is your car standard or power steering?

there are tiny tabs that need to be pushed in to realse the wire , a small jewellers screw driver should get in there ,go in from  the connector side not the wire side
I do have a manual handy & cannot remmeber what the orange wire si for
