Hi, just trying to figure things out on this site.
« on: March 31, 2009 - 12:26:54 AM »
I'm happy to find another resource to help me sort out my 1974 Challenger.

My car has had quite a history, and once I get all my facts straight, I'll write about them.  Basically, the car was in the same family for years. Then it was bought because someone had installed a 1970 factory Dana in it, the original 360 had a windowed block.

This owner was going to keep the Dana, and scrap the car.  His friends convinced him to look at the car differently, and it was restored.  The restoration soon became a race car for 19 and a half years that regularly saw 10 sec passes.  The car has a 6 point roll bar, stock interior, stock wheel wells, and a Green Go paint job.

It was sold to a young couple who made some poor decisions with the car.  They basically had the car for about a year, and sold it when they separated.

I bought the car on April 1st, 2008. I have done alot of sorting that the last owners had messed up.  The fellow that had the car for over 19 years took pretty good care of the car. It was a race car that saw very limited street use.

I found one of his low 10 second time slips under the drivers seat, and his provincial safety certificate dated 1993 with the mileage.  He basically put 2000 miles on the car, (including the young couple who had the car for a year).

I have put about 500 miles on the car and am about to make some changes to keep the car a true street machine that is reliable.    :canada:

Hopefully I got this right.  This is a picture of when it was with the owner who had it for over 19 years. :canada:

Awesome car!  Good luck!

So what did the other owners mess up?  Wiring?

Thanks for the welcome and kind words.  I think E body cars tend to take nice pictures because they just got the basic lines right.

My car is a twenty footer, that I intend to drive the heck out of.  Most of you guys have lookers with details that truely outshine my car.  I don't mind the flaws in my green ride;...it's almost comforting not having to worry as much about this car as the refined, detailed beauties many of you have.

I have a fetish for wheels and different bolt on looks.  There is also the fetish for bolt on power.
I have most of those items at my disposal.  The present game plan is as a reliable driver that will allow me to cover car shows and events across the US and Canada.

The wiring tends to be an issue on these older cars, but it was working until the last owners got very creative in their approach.  Welding mufflers to the seat bracket studs,  using 'any' mechanical (truck) part instead of the right part, and way too many cobbled up items/ deleted/ ommitted/ etc., etc., etc., just plain lack of common sense approach. I was blinded by the solid shiny green steel, and knew the car had aquired some issues.  I bought with my heart, not with my head.  Things are getting under control, and I'm learning.

I'm down to a one car garage at the moment and progress has been very slow through the winter.  The garage houses too many projects and related components. I'm trying to sell off my front engine dragster so the garage can be fully dedicated to the Challenger.  The economy is not helping things.

I know that I have chosen an odd  user name.  That is the VIN for the car.  It has to be among the last of the 360, 1974 Canadian Challengers.

I see one person has already called me JH23, and that's OK.  There is also the last 3 missing digits that can be used as a shortened name (XXX).

I guess I'll have to see what sticks.
