Front Disk Rebuild Question
« on: March 31, 2009 - 11:09:55 PM »
Can anyone recommend a source for a somewhat original equipment (full loaded) caliper set?  Our Napa in town only shows separate parts like the pins, bushings and bleed screws not the whole enchilada. Wondered if there is anything to look out for  buying a rebuilt caliper?

Need a recommendation for replacement pads in a organic compound too.

 Thanks

Jon

What year?....  NAPA lists  "semi loaded"  which means the pads are not included.
I notice the same parts services both 70 & 73 so I suppose year does not matter.

Only three auto parts stores in town Napa, Kragen and Carquest. Probably try a different counter person a Napa using the numbers or order online. Are the calipers hard to rebuild? I would like to keep the originals as spares and noticed they sell seal kits.

Any recommendations on a pad? I would like a "soft" compound so the pad wears not the rotor. Thanks!

Nothing to rebuilding, there is a trick to getting the outer boot on using compressed air.  Put the caliper in a vice, place the boot in the grove in the caliper, hold the piston on the boot then blow air through the fluid inlet. The boot will balloon and allow the piston to slide in.. may take a few tries to get the feel of it.
If your piston is in good shape & the inner bore is not terribly pitted I see no reason not to do your OE's....I did mine.

Thanks for the install info that will be great when refitting.

How is the piston removed to replace the seal? Mine are a little old and kinda stuck. :dunno:

I think normally compressed air will do it but I had to hook mine back to the car & pump the pedal to get them moving.
