Can I do this?
« on: April 01, 2009 - 08:24:19 AM »
My antenna base in my car is trashed, but the wire seems to be fine.  I picked up a complete antenna at a swap meet (A-body, I think), but the wire looked a lot worse when I got it cleaned up.

Looking at the base, it appeared that the wire can be removed, so with gentle persuasion, I removed it.  I did the same to the wire/base in my car and plugged in the extra base and attached everything to the fender.  Everything seems OK, but I haven't hooked up the radio to know.

Does this have any chance of working?  I can't see the $120+ for a new "correct" one.

:dunno: Dunno, give it a try and see if the radio picks up stations.

One thing though I would try to solder/secure the wire going into the base.  When the antenna is stationary is one thing but when it's on a car that is moving, any slight movement may cause you to lose connection between the wire and the base or else will cause static with the slightest movement.  :2cents:
