door sill plates
« on: April 03, 2009 - 04:36:57 PM »
My 70 has aluminum door sill plates. Not shiney chrome but like brushed aluminum maybe. Is 70 by itself? Seems other ones I find are shiney chrome and look like metal.

What is correct? one kind for all :clueless:

Hey Alan,
My '74 Challenger sill plates were just like you described. I bought a chrome set at Carlisle last year and luv them. I donated my old set to a member here :2thumbs:

Metal /chrome  or aluminum?  This is the 3rd time I have had a 70 with brushed aluminum scuff plates.  No way these were shiney chrome when new. Front or back would show some type of sign on either one of them. I had heard before that 70 sills were different some how.  I just don't know. I'd hate to buy some new ones and they are wrong for my car. I still need a bit more feed back. Someone got a part number manual showing a different number on different years?

Mine were aluminum on both cars. The ones on the 72 were the same dull finish.

I bought two after-market sets. The first was dull and scuffed real easy. The second set was shiney and much more to my liking. I'm not sure which is correct, but you can have that dull stuff.     The shiney seems to be able to take more abuse.  My two pennies worth..   :2cents:

Al, I looked this up in my authentic 1970-71 Passenger Car Parts Catalog and there was only one number for both '70 & '71 Barracuda(B)/Challenger(J). It's under Code 23-20-14 and the part number was 2879600. Hope this helps. FYI, mine were dull and aluminum looking until a lot of elbow grease and chrome polish.

I figure I'm saying it wrong as ussal. Not a brushed finished but the 2 types are satin and chrome. Mine I believe are satin.  Thank you JayBee Does 72-74 have a different part number?  That was good info you gave me

Al, you're welcome. Unfortunately my parts books are only for '70 & '71. Maybe someone that has the later year ones will reply.

Good detective work, John. :2thumbs:
That whole "code" number conversion over to a "part" number is always a load of fun to decypher.  :pullinghair:

Alan,

My 72 Passenger Parts Catalog shows the same numbers as what John found.

My sets were both dull aluminum and not brushed.
