Anyone have a back up camera on their trailer?
« on: April 05, 2009 - 12:08:23 AM »
Dad and I are looking into getting one of those back up cameras that RV's and Busses have for the trailer just for an added safety thing should one of us have to go to an out of state show by ourselves and not have a spotter when backing up the trailer.  Has anyone installed one of these in their trailers?  I have seen wireless units and wired units.  There are a couple we have been looking at on ebay around the $200 range which is for the entire kit.  Any key items to look for in getting this camera system?

Thanks,

Brian

I do.
My old boss gave me this setup. It does work, but the video quality is only so-so.

There was a craze of that style here as the local Cosco had them for about $95.00. Very grainy pictures and Now that it has been more than a year I have noticed most of the ones I see aren't working properly. I know we had a very good wireless one in our parts department, even works at night, the camera is magnetic mount but is an orangey-yellow color so is not real pretty. Seems to have pretty good range too.  Here is one that looks like it.  http://www.gadgetshack.com/swhipowica.html

Purple1,

We tried that a couple years ago and got absolutely no reception in our truck for the monitor.  Called the company and they said it really doesn't get reception past 15'.  Put it on the end of our 24" enclosed trailer and you can imagine our results.

73challenger,

We checked into that one as well but since we will be changing out what trucks will tow the trailer (dads and my truck) we wanted a set up where we could just plug in the monitor into the truck we decided to use and plug into the trailer harness or secondary harness for the camera system on the trailer.
