Tell Me a Good Story About a Cuda or Challenger
« on: April 06, 2009 - 12:38:26 AM »
I'll get this going. In 1979 I responded to an ad that read== Mopar parts for sale. I called the guy up he was a few towns over in streamwood, Illinois. He had a completely wrecked 1970 charger in his back yard. I told him I wanted the manifold and carbs with the linkage and air cleaner.

We settled on 150 dollars and I had to take them off. I got everything off the car in about 30 mins and one thing I couldn't get over was all the Blood and chunks of skin and hair all around the drivers seat and cracked windsheild.

I said that to him and he said to me "Yea I know. My brother died in it. It was his car and it was all he cared about"

That's how I got an extra 6pac set up for my Cuda

I have to say although you got a great deal on your intake set up, this is not what I would call a "good story". Just my 2 cents. :walkaway:

OK,
so I hope this is a better version of a "Good" story. Back in 1976 I was looking for a decent used car. Previously, my parents wanting me to find a good reliable used car, had talked me into buying a piece of crap AMC Ambassador which lasted all of 6 months. So now I was looking again. Once again my parents had to get in the mix even though I would be making the payments. I loved Mopars, my parents drove them and my older buddy mentor had a sweeeet '70 340 'Cuda. My parents had almost talked me into this butt ugly 4 door Ford when I pleadingly asked the salesman if there was possibly anything in a two door sports car. He rubbed his chin and responded that they had just got in a '73 Barracuda, but it was still being gone over. I about fell out. I walked around back and there was the most beautiful 1973 sublime green Barracuda with a white rallye stripe, white vinyl roof. white interior and 318, auto with a slap stick. it only had about 15,000 miles on it and was in pristene condition. I knew it was mine when I laid eyes on it. I bought it and drove it for over ten years until I sold it and got a '70 Cuda big block!!! That was my first Mopar!!!! :woo: :woo: :woo:

O.K I'll try another one. I was at a Block Party and the old my chevy is better than your Mopar talk started. So I got talked into doing a burn out after a chevy that everyone would never forget. I had the old 2 windsheild washer pumps hooked up in the trunk (1 for each wheel) with the nozzles pointed at each tire feeding from 1 gal each of pure bleach. I staged buzzed her up to about 2500 holding the brakes in first and got-em spinning shifted to 2nd and then 3rd and turned on the bleach pumps and unloaded a full gal on each of the rear tires. The speedo was huvering around 80 mph and there was about 100 to 150 people standing real close to my car and the smoke filled the hole inside of the car and I couldn't see anything. I held it for about a full minute or two, until I just couldn't breathe anymore and just throttled down and turned the car off and got out and ran for air. People everywhere were freaking out. They said they couldn't see anything and only could just hear the roar of my Engine and where trying to run a way because they thought I was going to take off, but just ended up running around in circles. It took about 5 min for the smoke to clear and even got into peoples houses. Someone called the fire Dept and everyone still talks about that burnout to this day. Thecrazygreek=Cudamax and his Cuda.

I'll play. Back in '89 I was stationed at NAS Miramar in San Diego. One of the other single guys always hosted the Superbowl party at his place. This was my first year there, so I go to his place. As I'm pulling in My eyes are instantly caught by this '70 Challenger at the house across the street. I'm drooling. I go knock on the door and this huge guy answers the door. Something like 6'6". I'm thinking "holy sh!t". Anyway, after talking to him briefly I learn Yes it is his car and NO he is not interested in selling. Door closes. Well alright then. I go back to my friend Lou's house and watch the Bowl. Since Lou's house was a lot closer to the beach and the scenery that goes with the beach, us single guys were there often. I always eyeballed that Challenger. I didn't know much about it other than it was a B5 R/T 440 4 speed, or so I thought. For a year and a half I eyeballed that car. I don't think it ever moved. I finally screwed up the courage to go back over there again. The guy wasn't very friendly the first time so I'm thinking how I'm going to be Mr. friendly to not piss the big guy off. I speak to the guy and ask if he remembers me. He says yeah, you're the only jarhead to ask about the car. I didn't want to tell him I was in the Navy not the Marines. Maybe he was an ex-marine and I could use that to my advantage. He tells me still not for sale, door closes. This guy is Mr. personality thru and thru. I decided I wasn't going to push it any further by talking to him again. About three months later Lou tells me there is a for sale sign in it. I flipped. I went to the bank and pulled out everything I had. Went to that guys house and knocked again. His wife answered and said she didn't know how much he wanted. I told her that was fine and asked if anyone else had made any offers. She didn't know. Not thinking clearly, I told her I had $3000 cash to give to her as a deposit until I could talk to her husband. After I went to Lou's I started thinking how stupid it was. First giving her $3000, maybe he only wanted $2500. He sure wants $3000 now. :banghead:  And second, I didn't have anything proving that I had just given her my $3000. :bricks1: After about an hour I chickened out and went back to their house to get my money back. He was home now and still just as friendly. :eek4: He tells me that the car is already sold and gives me my money back. I wasn't bummed about missing the sale at all, I was just relieved to get my money back. She starts yelling at this guy, "Ronnies not going to buy that car!, He can't even pay child support! :blah: :blah:. I was nervous. I kept expecting him to knock her into the neighbors house. She goes on about how I had cash and  :blah: :blah:. I started to walk away and now she's yelling at me! :scared: "Hey aren't you still buying the car?! :blah: :blah:. I said that I thought that they should work it out. I go to Lou's house and pop a beer and I'm thinking WOW what an experience. Half way thru my beer the door bell rings and it is this guy's wife. She has the title and keys and a bill of sale. She tells me that the price is $4500 and that I would still owe them $1500. this was written on the bill of sale. I'm shocked and thinking this woman is :screwy: But again not thinking clearly, I signed the bill of sale, gave her the $3000 and she gives me the signed title, keys and says get it out of the driveway. :22yikes: Suddenly I get scared again. I go over expecting this big guy to waylay my a$$ and the car won't start, dead battery. :banghead:  I ask Lou if I can put it in his garage until I can get it running. He agrees and we push it into his garage. The next day I go get a loan for the remaining $1500 and after work I head over to pay them off. The guy answers the door, :scared:   smiles and takes the money and thanks me. I was just blank. :clueless:
Of course after looking over the title and the car I discovered that it wasn't an R/T or a 440, it was an A66 car with a non numbers 340. At first I was a little irritated at myself for not keeping my head screwed on straight, but after I got the car running and started driving it, that non numbers 340 with the sixpack, 4 speed and 4.10 Dana was sure a lot of fun. :burnout:

heres one for ya. when i was 18 i bought my first cuda, sadly it was from hlpag and i got a bit ripped off, but oh well. that car was my daily drive in the summer of 2004 and i loved every minute of it. stupidly i sold it and regreted it ever since. so about a year and a half ago i got into a cuda kick again. but since i had bought a home and took on other responsibilities i didnt think it could happen. my girlfriend at the time(now wife!) was never into muscle cars but really liked cudas after i introduced her to them. so her and my mom went on a secret cuda shopping mission to buy me a car for my birthday. she sat down with my whole family and talked over a few cars that were in the area and which one id like best. once they decided she went and put a deposit on it. a 73 318 bs code cuda! so one night we were laying in bed, and i had already all but given up on finding a cuda, she asked me if i still wanted one. i said hell yea if i could find one id be interested in. she rolled over and reached into her nightstand. she told me to close my eyes and hold out my hand. then she put something in my hand and closed it. i opened my eyes and looked at what she gave me and in my hand were a set of old chrysler keys! keys to a cuda!! she said "i found ya one!". oh boy was i excited! so the next evening we went and looked at it and i was totally in love. we paid the rest and hauled her home. now were restoring it slowly but surely. i love that girl! :woohoo:
i plan to leave this world the same way i came into it...by accident.

Here’s a cuda story for you-It’s kinda long (sorry) and it used to be posted on completelycudas web site owned by cuda zappa  long ago-
It was a little after new year’s in 1971, I was a 7 year old kid that was really into cars. I was out riding by bike (my first taste of freedom and speed). As I turn the corner from out house, I see this brand new beautiful black 1971 cuda-black paint, black vinyl top, gilled fenders, black 340 billboard stripes, with fog lights, luggage rack (I wasn’t too fond of the luggage rack) and rallye hood. I thought that was the coolest car in the world!! I decided to ride a little closer to get a better look. As I cruised in for a closer inspection-WHAM-I get hit by a by this stream of cold water.
I stop my bike to see who wet me, and I find out it was my neighbor Mr. dean. He warns me not to scratch it because he just bought it. I then ask him if I can get a closer look-so he then waves me over-as I am looking the car over-Mr. dean is telling me about all the equipment that was on the car. He mentions it was the show room car at the Pasadena Dodge Plymouth dealer and the salesman says the dealership owner was trying to get one of each hp special engine (426 hemi, 440 sixpak, and 340) options in quadruple black cars and this was the first one delieved. It is equipped with the typical cuda fare but with, A/C, power windows, rear defogger and black leather seating, ect…
That summer I would go and help him wash and wax it because it was such a cool car, and I asked him when he got tired of it, would he sell it to me. Well 30 yrs later-he came over and asked me if I still wanted the whole Plymouth-of course-I said of course!
I am so lucky he has always been and still is a man of his word!
