It was about 1980 and I was about 20 years old .I was in the Marines engaged to get married in a few weeks . I was stationed in NC and went home for week ends every chance I got . This week end there was a freak snow fall in NC and the base shut down for 2 days . I was in Albany NY and didn't know about the snow till I got to NY city to pick up a passenger and he told me .
So I went back to Albany and to make a long story short I was up all 4 nights . I waited till the last minute to head back which meant no stopping on the way back . About 2 AM in Virgina I started falling asleep . My rider refused to drive so I kept pushing . Next thing I knew I slamed into the back of a Pinto at 70 MPH on I 95 .
I was OK my friend seemed ok so I ran to the Pinto , thank god they were good . Next I went back to my car and now my rider started going into shock . I knew a little 1st aid and tried to keep him calm till help showed up . I rode with him to the hospital and after they said he was ok I started hitch hiking to base I was broke by that time .
I made it back 2 days late tried and hungry . My 70, 383 Cuda was towed to the local Chevy dealer . That S O B was hitting me $14.00 per day storage plus towing .
I could drive it except a radiator . So I took a bus back carrying a radiator , talked the driver into letting me out going by and I changed in in the driveway .
Well 30 years later I still have the Cuda and I'm still married to the same girl .
