I have a 354 gear in my car right now with 275x60x15 t/a's.  I am going with 410's after I get back from Canada. I like the power range better myself. If I am cruisin on the major hwy's I just cruise at 3k no matter what the MPH is. If i go long distance driving, I just leave a bit earlier. I enjoy the muscle cars for what they were in the time period they were built.

Well the MIN speed on freeways was raised from 45 mph to 55 mph here in Michigan...so the state cops don't care what your rpm is, if you aren't going 55 mph you could and hopefully get ticket for impeding traffic.

When  all the semis start passing your car, you are causing problems...just like those speeding way faster than anybody else.

The factory put forged cranks, pistons so the motors could spin at 4000-4500 rpms all day long...there is no reason a motor built right needs to stay at 3000 rpms. Yes the rings will last longer..but just like anything else in life, if you wanna play you need to pay  :grinyes:

Why would you hope I get a ticket? :dunno:  And at 3k and tires that are right at 28"  you will be around 60 or so. Screw the cops, I dont have an interstate cruiser. They made satelites for that :burnout:  I'm more of a route 66 type fella.  I was born and raised in Michigan. You don't have many interstates there. Mostly rural high ways, so it isnt a big deal as it is.

Well near Detroit there are interstates and the posted limit is 70 mph and traffic moves at 75 mph with a few going faster. Any one going under 55 mph is causing a danger not only to themselves but others on the interstate. The min limit was raised from 45 mph to 55 mph cause large differences in speeds are more deadly than traffic going 75 mph.

Yes the are roads right next to the interstates....many have the same numbers...US 23...Old US 23..all those roads have a max speed limit of 55 mph with no min. If people want to drive less than 55 mph use those roads and stay off the 70 mph zones.

End of rant peace

So you guys can break the law going over the speed limit without getting a ticket, but not under 55 :dunno:

I really dont care.  Seems Detroit is turning into a ghost town as it is.  So those super speed highways will be empty just like the wallets.   Back in the 60's the speed signs said any reasonable speed there.  I can hang at any speed I need to just the same :2thumbs:

Yeah there is fewer cops but everybody has cell phones...they come running out if they get enough calls..plus the are freeway cameras..you be surprise how much traffic is still on the roads..many of us are "stuck here" ha ha ha.

I have 3.91 gears and 26 inch tires and do 75 mph right along everybody else...and it has more "get up and go" at that speed than many other cars.

For very long distances I might back it off to say 65 mph but that is about it unless it was at night or there wasn't much traffic...whatever the 18 wheel semis are going past the police cars are the min speed one should go...IMO

Big Trucks in Michigan have a 60 mph limit but many go 65 mph..few if any-expect the gravel trucks fully loaded going uphill drive 55 mph...and they have their 4 way flashers going and are in the far right lane...plus they are big as heck and can be seen easily.

Now that gasoline is under $2 a gallon traffic is moving....hate to see anybody get hurt or killed on the roads, that is all.

They raised the limit in Detroit so those that have to pass through can do it as quickly as possible

Thanks everyone for chiming in with their opinions.   It seems that there are so many variables, it is impossible to provide a straight answer.  It all seems to come down to many expectations.   Anyway, I thank everyone for their input.

No...its how you drive it and what you want.

I wish I had 4.10 gears instead of 3.91's with my 26 inch tires...cause with my 6600 rpm redline at 70 mph its going too fast for 2nd gear and would have a stronger pull with 4.10 gears...it goes "too fast" top end to really be usefull where I drive...

Now if it had 3.23 gears it could hit 2nd gear and have a better pull at 70 mph...but I don't need or even want a 145 mph top speed. (I don't wanna be killed or be in jail, lol) With 3.23 gears it be a bit slower running up to speed..were and how I drive 3.91-even 4.10 gears works great.

If I drove long distance at "normal" steady speeds, 3.23 gears would be great.

3.55 is a good trade off..and if you get two sets of tires..one 25-26 inches and the other 29 inchs (255/70/15) you could swap off and have both worlds..at least at 65 mph with 29 inch tires and 3.55 gears it be livable for hours even and with 25 inch tires it be still fun stoplight to spotlight sport driving.

3.23 gears with 29 inch tires would make a great 70-75 mph car that could drive for hours everyday at those speeds and even higher.

I seen this week online that in the state of Virginia..75 mph in a 55 mph zone could be reckless driving  :22yikes:  That would truly stink...hope the gals are easy to get over there  :D
