I agree about adequate cooling. You only need the fan when the car isn't moving so you need to add a good clutch fan and shroud. Make sure that you have enough timing at idle too.

My 383 R/T came with a 26" hemi radiator because it had the A36 option.

This is all great info and helps me too...

My 72 has a 318 in it right now.....trying to get it all setup to drive this summer.....one day I may go to a big block....so I was thinking I shoudl "do it right" now....

But it looks like even with a big block, a 22 will do....will probably get a parts-store rad for now, which are all 2 core, and then have it recored to be a 3 core if/when I would go to a bigger engine....

I am planning on getting a viscous clutch and a shroud....

70burntorangeTA,

Take a look at www.coolcraft.com.  My problem centered around someone putting a 2 core radiator in my 440 challenger that originally was a 383 with a 22inch radiator.  Needless to say within a few miles and depending on the temperature, it would overheat in no time.  I started looking around thinking an aluminum radiator was my only option since a "so called" factory correct was $1300.  Some of the great people on this site recommended them...I have since ordered one from them.  I just received it a couple of weeks ago but I have not had time to put it in yet.  It is a 4 core high efficiency brass radiator that looks factory correct (other than missing the stamped part number and chrysler logo on the top).  The price was around 580 with shipping.  The part number for the 440 is 03642AND.  It also has the trans cooler as well and is suppose to bolt right in.  Take a look......www.coolcraft.com.

Later...
